[Development] Collaboration Source

01/24/2012 09:11 Spirited#1
Pretty easy to understand.
This is a collaboration source hosted by me on my dropbox.
All I'm going to do is set it up and put in some minor fixes from time to time.

I'll be backing up the source for you guys regularly.
The source that I'm hosting is Impulse's 5165 (because I know a few people who want to work on it but have a hard time getting started).

You're welcome to join, just comment below and tell me what you want to do.
I'm mainly hosting it for educational purposes for you guys.

Good luck.
Sincerely,
Fang

Why not make a source from scratch?

I knew this was going to be the first post & question...
Because I'm already doing that and because this is what a few people I know want to work on. Not everyone wants to make their own source from scratch. Besides, it's not like I'm going to be working on this source much. I'm just managing it for my friends. The only reason for this is to see who else is interested.

This project has nothing to do with me. Im just managing and hosting it.
Also, I code more in C++ than I do in C#. I'm a software engineer student.

All public "collaboration" source have failed and I expect the same of this one. Also, why not using a proper SVN? Where registered user have the possibility to update the source at any time? As you are only there to manage the project, that would be really more powerful (not the right word, but I can't find a good word for my idea :P ).

VSC++ doesn't exist as I think that you're talking about the Microsoft's extension to the C++. The proper name is Microsoft C++ (MC++) that is deprecated since the addition of the .net framework or C++/CLI that is now the good name. Also, I think that it's a powerful language... Better than C# as it can include native part. It's a nice compromise between managed and unmanaged.

I use dropbox because it's what I use. idk. I like it. It updates when people save things and it's great (in my opinion). Chris was the one that introduced it to me. He built his source in it too.

And with it's success... that's up to Paul. He's the real manager. I guess I'm more of a host than anything else. It's mostly Paul's project.

Lol, as much as it is my project its not going to progress as fast as i'd like unless I can ask how to go about doing selected things, should think about jumping on our teamspeak sometime. So I ask questions and maybe show me how to go about doing it, C# class is great and all but its way to slow in progressing right now for me..

I find to favor mysql over txt/ini,
-was having some issues with npcs not all loading up correctly and it just seams like sql is better for this, come to find out there was a few npcs that had the same ids. plus inputting data and reading it is so much better in a sql database..

It's much more organized and easier to read and change.

#some what off topic
Alright so am not sure how many people really want to learn C#, but for anyone who is I am willing to post some of my projects that i am currently doing in my C# class, i can also take a few mins to add comments here and there in the projects to help.

The reason I started working on this development is I find the projects are a bit to simple, so i like to see a more complex way of the how lists, methods, dictionary, and so on work in this source.
