Private server with OSX players

Hi all i managed to create a silkroad app that works native on osx lion. I like to configure it for a private sever with low rates and silk for in game gold. Maybe with a native app the private server can attract mac users who don't play now cause they don't know the right tools to play what results in a bigger player base.

I think MacOS have a Windows emulator (crosshair or something?) that runs Silkroad without any problem. You just have to remove the security systems from the client (Hackshield or GameGuard, depends of the version), because they block the client run from there.

Yeah, it's called Crossover. There's also Wine/Darwine/Winebottler.

Anyway, using applications like these won't make it run natively at all.

It sets up a 'compatibility layer' that handles Windows API functions and reimplements them to provide compatibility with the host OS.
They've achieved this by replacing the normal Windows DLLs with their own DLLs.
They also use a kernel process similar to Windows' to support lower level functions.

The DLLs and the kernel are limited on a few areas though, so drivers and probably anti-cheating software (HackShield, X-Trap, GameGuard, etc.) might not work (correctly).

To sum it up, it will be more native than a VM for sure, but it's not perfect and some stuff might not work at all.

You can run it with wine and maybe crossover, i don't know. The downside about that is that it is kinda hard for some people. Thats why i created this. Just simply drag and drop and you can play without opening wine or anything.

This app uses Wine?

Could you try to measure the performance difference between Wine/Crossover and Windows?
That would be interesting.
