Question about steam keys

I am planning to buy steam keys but im still in doubt because I'm not sure if it will work. If I buy a steam key and put it in my steam account will I be able to download the game to play or do I have to have the game installed in computer in order for the steam key to work?

You must download the Game with you're Steam Key and than you can play the Game.

So for example I bought a MW3 steam key without the game installed or cd to install the game will I still be able to download and play the game using the steam key?

1. Get your key
2. activate it on steam
3. download the game
4. play

You don't have to install it via CD. But if you have the CD, it's way...faster :o
