ok, i got my development server running on windows, however windows is very resource hungry, i have been searching for about 3 days (google and here of course) i have seen bane mention several times about a guide converting everything to linux but i cant find the guide or a link to the guide anywhere, which i am willing to do however getting all the .exe services over to linux is my issue if someone sees the guide for doing this please supply a link for me ill be researching wine plugins see if someone has one for running services, but i doubt ill come up with anything. thanks for the help.

I never said there was a guide, converting to linux's is a two step thing, one you need to convert MSSQL into MySQL, hard, then you need to convert window's service's into Linux's service's, hard. So far, no one has done it! :(

Running a server off of Linux would be more trouble than it's worth. My advice, download a Windows emulator for Linux and run it through that, if you can. Or option 2, install Windows.

You can find information on installing MySQL for Linux here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

You can find the Windows emulator for Linux here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

Good luck.

You can't run window's service's in wine.

True, it was meant for insight in running exe files. The issue would be running a windows program at start up, as Wine is just an interface between Windows and Linux. Wine is not meant for booting a Windows file at start up. You can check NetBios and set a program to run via Wine at start up, but this would not fix your issues. Again, I would revert to option #2 - Install Windows. Linux is a headache.

Or just install a Virtual Machine and install windows in it, in the case that you just want to keep linux

i already have a working windows shaiyadev server, but for running servers its normally better to use linux as it uses far less resources leaving more available to your users and increaseing overall throughput, and bane sorry i went back and read the post you made your right sorry about that. i suppose ill have to figure it out and post it on the dev side of the forums.

the server emulator and all its dependents (i.e. .exe files and services) i assume are written in C#.net am i correct?
