is the modem enabled wireless? does modem even have wireless? go to 192.168.1.X(gateway) and check your modem

edit:make sure wireless is enabled on laptop

Modem WiFi enabled 100% / Laptop WiFi enabled 100% (light on and stuff).. OS Win XP (32bit) if it matters ( processor is 64bit) but i doesent show any avaliable networks. The other laptop finds the network with 5/5 strenght of signal.

the IP of the modem isn't always the one you posted
it can also be 10.0.0.138 or 192.168.0.1 or any other Address reserved for private networks
The two i posted are standard Addresses.

What WLAN do you use 802.11a or b/g/n
Maybe you use 802.11n and the WLAN Card of your Laptop doesn't support it

I think the laptop uses 802.11n / Driver is Broadband 802.11n.. and cable net works..... Before the windows reinstall it used to see the wireless networks.

Maybe the Driver makes Problems
Uninstall the one you installed and let Windows install a Driver(connect it via Cable so it can search in the Internet)
If this doesn't help just install Win 7. I bet that it will work then

i got this problem before, lol. i was kinda upset why i wasn't able to connect to the wireless. this happened after i did a factory restore (windows xp) on the laptop. update the Operating System ;) [and yeah, use the LAN connection first]

yeah im using lan connection.. but what to do now.. uninstalled and reinstalled all drivers avaliable 1by 1. Laptop isnt that capable so i dont want to install Win7. :( . Already did the auto search for driver from windows.. Same problem.

I already had a problem like that once XD, you may have all drivers correctly installed, but check if the laptop has an "hardware" button or slider to enable wireless, if that is turned off, you may format it 100 times that it wont work. Check the button :P

Im not a idiot bro :X There is a big button in the keyboard with a WiFi icon and when i press it the light goes on and the GUI of the wifi says Wireless;ON but doesent find any networks.

I guess your WLAN card is broken then
Did you try to create an Ad Hoc network with e.g. your Phone and see if the Laptop can connect to it?

Before the windows reinstall it worked fine. Now it can only be connected via cable.

So when you check for wireless networks, there are none found? Are there other networks in your area that are usually visible?
If yes, there is a fault with the network driver install. You have a few options.

Uninstall the current drivers, and look for either earlier ones or later ones using your ethernet cable (wired)
Buy a USB wireless adapter from netgear, or somewhere else. Dualband N adapters are cheap nowadays, with 5ghz frequency.
Reinstall your operating system again, you could try another version of Windows too.

tried about 5 drivers for the model of the laptop. Reinstalled 3 windows ver. and nothing. i dont know what the operational system was before the reinstall. and it worked 100% b4 the reinstall

Somehow i managed to fix it myself. Installed another driver that wasn't in the HP website and i put a wifi manager program for the wificard and it worked :) thanks everyone for your help :)!
