I'm going to say my peace now.
I've always loved rappelz, always. There is alot of drama going on with this private server community. I've played it too much over the course of the past 6 years of my life. I think it is time to move on. There are limitations on the development side of this, I don't like how there are not ingame commands, like wow has, like .recall or .additem, or .removeitem. I was spoiled with WoW, and I wish that rappelz had the functionality that WoW does. I played a server that I liked, lish's server, darknesswithin. I enjoyed my stay there, but what I didn't enjoy is the hacker that is tearing their server apart. If it's illegal to shut down AOL, or the world trade center, how is it legal and morally right to invade someone else's internet, in someone else's home. Grow up, kids. FFS.
I must bring to point, ArcEmu, for WoW. a public, open source development program. They make THOUSANDS of fixes all the time. And because of such a large development group, they are constantly up to date with patches, and expansion packs.
The other thing I would like to point to is Linux. An opensource OS. I love linux, it's so customizable, and there's like at least a million different kinds to choose from. When you go open source you add in for customization. You add in for brilliance, for bug fixes from some guy in kenya, or from some guy you don't know who lives in dubai.
Those that are stubborn, and non-open are those that fail. The team will have deadweights, and then people who carry the deadweight. Eventually the team morale will go down, and down, and eventually the whole project will just self destruct, and lie desolate. As I've seen with rappelz at least 10 times in the past 5 years. Get your **** together.
There is only one reason behind keeping it closed: Money
Does the dev team expect money? Does the dev team expect the private server community for rappelz to not grow? Take some lessons from ArcEmu, and linux, and all the other awesome opensource great programs and emulators out there.
This is a closed circuit, stupid emulator. At first, releases were published. I heard word of a google code, and ftp coming up. I don't see any of that happening. What I see is bull. There are equally as capable people around, that know what svn dump is, who could create fixes also, but you won't let them. I applaud you, in your stubborn-ness.
I fold my cards, here.
Goodbye rappelz. Farewell, and good riddance.
