CPU usage peaks every few minutes while CO runing

I think its good place to talk bout it becouse its close topic to multiclieting so
no official forum can help me.

The problem is that normally at steady system i can run even 10 or 15(!)( i tried it!) clients without ANY decent lag and fps in playable(botable) 15-20 range(i have dual 2ghz 2ghz cpu , 2 g ram laptop WInXP sp2 and dsl 512 ) .But every(EVERY) 10 minutes or so i got high CPU usage peaks( by system process not conquer.exe!) and it makes me disconnect or lag as hell (00 fps:eek: ),especially on few clients running but sometimes even on 2 Oo.
that lag period lasts for about 1 minute then come back to normal,and after next 10 mins it happens again and agan. I repeat it happens even with small number of co running when my cpu goes at bout 10 % , then the system proces normally at 1-5% peaks to 50%(i think 50% is a cap for system at dual processors) and stay there for like a minute till half of my clients disconnect:mad:
i ask u if anybody have similar problems?. What programs /system tweaks i can use?? i tried dozens of usless progys like process explorer hijackthis , scanned for malware and viruses ,updated drivers ,turned off firewall and even anti-virus, turned off ALL win services i could and ALL autostart programs from msconfig and services.msc and searched houndreds of forums but found nothing helpfull, so it must be related to CO .

2gb ram and 15 clients. Your problem is most likely ram. My guess is your system pulls some of your clients out of memory and then has to reaccess them when they're stored on the hdd causing immense lag. Drop your clients to 5 or so and see if it still lags. If it doesn't, try getting more ram.

yes it lags sometimes even with 2 clients... ram usage never exceed 20 % off all ,so with my 2g fixed page file its no more than 40 % of ram... ram is not a problem here. i think it can be system/conquer.exe proces behavior while it tries to keep breaking connetion but dunno rly:(...and as i sad this is the system process that have those peeks not actual conquer processes, they stay at 5-20 pc , so with 10 on they should have enough of proceessor power to tay at playable 15 fps. O and mem usage in tasmgr says its 40 - 90 kk per conquer process so its not much of an issue i think. O and kernel times also goes crazy during this lag period .
Any other sugestions??....

looks like you got spyware / virus on your machine.

pls read carefully first post i written there that i tried ALL what is obvious ,like spyware /virus clean

I think too, it could be the ram. How much of your ram is free, using 15 clients? If it's the ram, more wont help much. WinXp (32bit) can only handle 2GB properly (afaik).

What system process causes the lag? I suggest to use process explorer ([Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]) to have a closer look at whats running on your station.

tx for reply but ppl pls read the first post to the end . I wrote there already all what u sad about. So no ,its not the ram, couse my usage never exceed 1 g of it, (with 10 clients), the process is system,and i tried already process explorer but it didnt helped me much.
O and those 15 clients it was just a plain test to see if my hardware is ok, and it is. Normally i play wit 4 to 8 clients openned.

well i got the same problem, what cpu u got? i got a p4 3.0. socket 478. and the fan goes normal then accelerates, drops to 4k rpm then raises to 4.5k... wierd dont happen when co is off

You're very wrong, about each client takes around 100mbs of ram
15 clients should only take 1.5 gig ram, since I have 2.5 gig I have tried it, no problem at all with ram, thus I acctually do have problems with cpu just like that guy above.

Edit: And if the process is system then why don't you just end the process :S? is it caleld svhost? the one that might sometimes take ALOT of cpu? One that requires in a range of 20-50mb ram? If so you can just end the process, make sure you end it before opening CO clients, it will make your windows look more like older windows versions but it will work great ;)

how come no one ever mention about the connection problem.....
let me tell u my case, it gets me quite frustrated
my ping will suddenly shoot up when there are lots of items on the floor or players
even i go to some empty place, and walk around
the ping goes up really easily, until i dc at 8000-10000ping
however, after i dc and login again, everything back to normal
which means, i can never finish the discity quest.
everytime got dc at the stage 1 or 2....

If it's not the ram, you have to specify the process causing your cpu usage. I suggest again to use process explorer to find out which of your processes use up to 100 pct of your cpu.

Process explorer shows interrupt and dpc usage, too. It occured to me once, that a irq conflict caused after some time 100 pct cpu usage. After a few moments the cpu usage dropped to normal. If its not irq/dpc it have to be another process. CPU load does not raise itself :D

@evanxxxm: i dont think its the connection. If a proggy takes all cpu load, you lag in co and get dced after a while. So first of all, i would search for the cpu user. If there isn't any, it may be the connection.

U can try to raise the thread priority of co to high (above norma)/higher and lower the priority of the cpu consuming thread/s (process explorer can do this, too). I would suggest not to use "realtime".

like i sad process is (the) system but i dont relly know how to search what thread in that process couse most cpu usage , how can i do it with process explorer to show me something like long-time chart about what s happening inside "system" process?
couse normally it shows only what is happening in one time point not the whole period.

yes i also dont think its connetion ,it stays much below my broadband speed all the time ,even with my lag period and the cpu user is system but it really doesnt say much... the question is what is cousing the process "system" to eat my processor?

you get the award for one of the stupidest replys ive ever seen,

firstly conquer uses somewhere in the region of 80 - 100mbs of RAM, and a further 50 - 70mbs of VM, so the overall memory usage is signficantly higher than you would think, and what bone was saying was that the cpu was having to move around large amounts of memory between the RAM and the VM jsut to keep the clients open, since windows uses roughly 50% of your RAM regardless of how much RAM you have, so effectively 2GB -> 1GB

so now that weve got that out of the way, you can now see why there would be an issue with the RAM, and this is almost certainly the reason behind the CPU maxing every now and again, its having to read/write to many different locations and do alot of work...

secondly svhost is an email based worm that forwards itself to everyone who has an email address stored on your computer,

thirdly svchost is a system process which is used to handel processes loaded from .dlls and its fairly essential for the general well being of your computer and should never be closed =/

I don't know if this helps. I've had the same problem, runaway system process that you can't see any hint beyond svchost, which could just about be anything that system runs. It has happened to me twice, the first time I had installed a custom "Hosts" file, and the DNS caching/DNS Server would max out CPU re-caching the urls. If you have installed a custom XP like LastXP, it comes with a several mb hosts file to ward off internet evils. Even without the hosts file, I still got that problem, and to be honest, DNS caching is really not necessary, so try turning it off and see if the problem resolves. If not, turn it back on.

My other issue was less general, this time it was the wireless radio on my laptop was seeking for wireless networks in the area, even if I was hardwired. Just had to turn that off, and CPU stopped jumping to 100 pct every 2 minutes. So if you have a laptop, check that one as well. It's more common a problem that I thought.
