Something everyone should know..

I'm sure that I'm not the only one who's noticed this, but fact is, there's not enough people playing EO private servers to have all these servers running. What we need to do, is host a few good servers and that be it.

There's no need for these noob servers coming up, we all just need to play the same servers. This way the few servers that we play, will be the most fun, rather than having tons of new servers with low populations. I may be some random to everyone, but what I'm saying, is the truth.

I really don't care what anyone does here, just trying to give everyone some advice.

Well your advise isnt working. We people on Elite*PvPers can do what they WISH to do. Like making eudemon pirvate servers. Its fun and very easy and something we can be proud of when someone join our server we could be like "oh hey he chose us outta a million!" Its our hobby now so... Nice Spam

Why we don't make a list and we call it "approved servers" managed by a wise man who had a wide knowledge on eo hosting and he hire some judges then we put some rules for anyone want to start a server, if the server hit the recommends then it will be added to the approved servers list .

For example
it should NOT be a laggy server( non hamachi or a vps doesn't matter)

It should stay online more than 2 months

the db used must be an improved one that has his own addons ( judges job ).

Server must be online 22h + a day.

A website that is online all the time.

That's fair I think, it will put an end for whats going here..
Well How you like my stupid idea ?? :D

everyone hast to start somewhere ... you will always have what you call "noob" servers

also everyone has their own point of view on their own server and other servers along with what goes into their server

this will cause players not to play on new servers because it isnt "approved" then the owners will just close down due to no/very low player counts.

also what is to say that the judge wouldn't be easily bribed or is more than happy to "help out" friends by skipping a few of the given constraints, also 22h ... should really be 24/7 maybe as low as 23/7 when maintainable is added in..

oh come on we all started as newbies and by the time we got better and became the best so who knows maybe one of those newbie servers become one of the best ?
05/19/2011 03:16 Eurion#6
I agree with hio77, people should at least try the server to see if they like it or not.
05/19/2011 03:44 Faith.#7
Well then to avoid this the judges job is to go in a server and check for those rules if they exists or not, then inform the mod of the section or the one who will adapt this shit ,then the server will be watched till 2 the month passes as it online server after that it will be added to the approved server list !!

about the unapproved server, we want them to close, cus starting a server is not an easy thing.
05/19/2011 09:00 ~Sword~Stalker~.#8
no one can ever take it watching over 40 servers for 2 months ..

and in these 2 months players would hesitate joining in case if it was not good and it's closed then .
05/19/2011 13:47 Faith.#9
@zero - fine we started as newbies, also new ones should work hard to be qualified and be one of the approved servers

We don't want those 10 days servers, we
don't want servers that uses revos db or w.e without adding anything thing to it .

@eurion those rules where put to stop those who think that they can make easy money from eo servers, choose what !? no one will bother to d/l a server client that has nothing special ..

@sk we already have 10+ server approved and the rest should first hit the recommends and then will be watched
they will be 5 or something .?

That will prevent ppl for getting scammed... :D

see to be honest i duuno if i like any of these ideas i am hosting my own server whitch i have worked extreamly hard on for the past few months and now i get it on hamachi (temp) i would rather everything stay the same we (Noobies) work hard to get some where and even harder to beat some of the experianced people i think it shld stay the same, other then the noobie servers that just download a server and client then open it and call it there own =/ i have put alot of custom work into mine i hate when noobies open server that they did nothing in or for well cant say that they did download the file.....

thats what i think

1) I do agree some servers that are out JUST to be public, but where the people have no idea what they are doing, probably shouldn't be there.
ESPECIALLY the ones that use Hamachi... it shows little to no effort on the creator's part (especially if it's like this for a week or more), which it would take less than 2 hours just to learn how ports, port forwarding, and how to set these work.

Some servers aren't up exclusively to be a Public Private Server (yes that is an oxymoron). Some that are here (at least mine) are Private Servers that were originally meant to be Private, then people say "hey, I want more players!".

2)I personally created my sever not just to play on, but to get practice on game hosting. Reason is, I plan on making my own game in the future, as I have already been working on the systems for it off and on for years.

I am running this game to get better experience with MySQL runs (which I never laid a finger on before), how to better make scripts and photo edit, and other things along those lines.

Then I come to this site asking for help for a better understanding.

Considering most of what I knew before was Web Programming, I'd say it works well for me.

In other words, many people may have different reasons for having the server up. To be honest, I don't care too much about how many people play my server, I do it for my own thing. But again, my opinion says joining one that puts little to no effort into it isn't really worth joining either (EG: Site doesn't work right, still uses Hamachi, exc.), unless it's for a group thing.

Just my input. :)

What I was trying to get at is, why have a bunch of servers with like, 10-20 people on them? That's not how it used to be, if I remember correctly, several years ago it was just like, 6 servers with populations in the hundreds. And that's when I really played eo private servers, along with many others, I'm sure. Im coming at you guys as a player, and as a player, I definitely think that this game is funner with more people, am I correct? No, this game is only fun with a lot of people on a server, in my opinion.

As developers, make your own server additions and release them here. Then, people who host servers can use what you've done. I'm pretty sure that's what pfj was here for. It's foolish to think that people here will give up selfishness to give up their servers and contribute fully to the community, though.

just to let u know not all servers can go Public if u dont have a dynamic Ip address Whitch I do, I am waiting to get a raise from my job b4 i upgrade my internet whitch will cost me 40$ more per month, so just to let u know dont bash hamachi users until u get the full story sure some people dont know how to use port forwarding so they do use hamachi whitch they shld look up everything about running servers b4 they do it

Yeah its really annoying. But im sure people have worked really hard to get their servers up so its pretty rude to just tell them to shut it down. Maybe a server merge is a good idea?
05/20/2011 01:46 Faith.#15
Merging top one "Owners won't agree"
Merging newbies "More pain, drama, fights and they wont add something to the community :D"
