Is it worth it? (A pvp server)

Well,

Title kinda says it all. Is it really worth developing a unique kick-ass pvp server?

The community in InfamousNoone's words has "Gone into the shitter" which is totally true, so, Think its worth the time, Dedication & hardwork to make another good pvp server? (which means decent protection against botters!) .. Or would it be totally useless as the community is too fucked up?

My oppinion is and always has been that pvp servers suck. Sure a good/decent one is fun for a bit but there's simply not enough to keep ppl entertained. A decent lvl/pvp mix (old qo) means there's something for ppl to do and then add in lots of content for both pvp and pve

Again, I only have one server for motivation. AcidCO.

They managed it so why couldn't me & and a capable team?

My server was going to be like TQ's. A real leveling server that's actually fun to lvl on, like it was in the old days. PVP servers go out fast on this forum mainly because they're crap... so who knows.

I'll repeat myself.

AcidCO & HybridCO both did a FANTASTIC job at keeping players. cant remb exact numbers but they had a fair amount(back then anyway, no idea what the average players for a good server is nowadays). They're were both strictly pvp. Excluding those server's will never be topped, but oh well, something extremely close could be achieved.

#edit
Had to put this, Doritos & Doritos Hot Salsa is extremely nice.

If you manage to develop a stable server with;

- Old Jump preferred
- Low Ping/No Lagg
- Professionally acting staff
- English as main language

I'd be interested to join, since I still like to kick people their asses but I sold my TQ account. But that would only be if those points are marked. Some things to actually improve the funrate of the server. Ofcourse the old-school features as Guild Wars and stuff should be implented as well. If you decide to create such a server, PM me and I would love to be your first player.

As you saw, I said to read here for the Lowping/no lagg.

To support that we would of course have a customizable fps unlocker. But to be honest, It totally depends on your connection/where you live. I would of preferred to have it hosted it EU.

as pro4ever said, the best ones are lvl/pvp mix cuz if everyone get's full+235763582 and full 2 socks & everything else... there will be nothing else to do... many servers give preferences for who donate ... like you can only reach the 200 by normal leveling... and for getting 201-255 you must donate... lol all the servers this way are crappy... seriously...
you should do something that everyone can reach no matter if he/she donate or not... and of course, if you do the custom quests & events it will be better than others...

some time ago i've done a private server for me and my friends ... they asked me why the server rates were low (maximum cps drop were 40 if i'm not wrong) and i said.. because if everyone gets 140 & full +12 so fast... there will be nothing else to do... they agreed with me ... but your server will be good if you know how to entertain the players and if you don't become an stupid admin, like if you do a character for you play with others... don't go and ban someone just because you couldn't kill him/her...

also about botting... the easiest way is changing the conquer.exe crypto & TQServer seal (would take like 2 minutes to do it)...

Something it seems ill have to think through, AcidCO the events even tho people played them over and over they never seemed to got bored of it.

And yea about botting, I'll invent some-sort of anti-cheat.

YOU may way it to be hosted EU but the vast majority of PvP players want it to be US-based, which is one of the reasons Acid CO's population crumbles when it turned into an EU-based server.
05/11/2011 18:12 _DreadNought_#11
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

But I would be interested in your opinion, Do you think its worth the time, Dedication & hard-work to make another good pvp server?

The only reason I ever made a server in the first place was to reproduce the same fun I had on QO before it became leveling-based. If you don't find PvP servers fun, you won't be able to understand what your community wants. A PvP server is highly governed by the synergy of the community.

nope not really im not a fan of pvp and i find that when its lvlin like trinityco except for the wipes ppl tend 2 stick around longer of course if u have wipes like them u wont have to many players tho

Since I played PvP servers for 3 years now, I'll try to share my experiences. Most important thing about PvP servers is communication between players. If you host the server at US, there will be more US players and it will be so easy to communicate with them. That is why HybridCo and AcidCo succeed when it was hosted at US. If you host the server at EU, the communication will be poor compared to US but there will be more players because most US players quit playing PVP servers long time ago. I recommend you to host your server at EU if you want more players. This is gonna sound cruel but I also HIGHLY recommend you to ban some countries such as Egypt just like AcidCo did. Their communication skill is very very poor.

My point is if you have a decent C# knowledge and if you are serious about this project than it will be definitely worth it. I haven't seen a decent PvP server ever since AcidCo shut down. It will definitely worth the hard-work.

If you've got any more question feel free to ask.
