[Share] Treasure Boxes for CT1 (modified NpcName-e.dat file)

02/20/2008 15:31 goWoot#1
Due to a few requests, I decided to share my modified NpcName-e.dat file.

It will only work for CT1 retail! Does not work on L2J!

Here's what it does:
  • Renames the Treasure Chests that require a key to open (also known as Treasure Boxes) to "Box". Added a title to them which reads "Shinies Inside" for easy recognition).
  • The "bad" chests (those that you cannot open with a key) are still called Treasure Chest.

In order to use it, you will have to patch your system folder with l2encdec by dstuff. You can download it here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

I won't give instructions on how to use l2encdec since a step-by-step manual is included in the l2encdec archive.
If you have specific questions about the usage, either post in the l2wh forums or here in this thread. In the latter case, I will try to help you.

Patching done? Aight, just copy my NpcName-e.dat into your system folder. Remember to make a backup of the original one, just in case.

The modified NpcName-e.dat is attached to this post.

Here is a screen of how it looks like.

Unless this is only for retail it doesn't seem to work right for me... All chests say shinies inside...

Thanks for the feedback!

L2J servers have different mechanics. As soon as you open the chest, the server decides whether it is a Box or Chest.

Hey does GameGuard detect this? What are odds of getting banned using this I always wanted to do stuff like custom Npc Tittles/unlimited zoom etc... but figured gg would detect the mod. . . does Ncsoft ban for shit like this ? I used to do stuff like this on private servers but was always a little chicken to mod stuff on retail ;) how long u been using this without detection>?

Been using the DStuff stuff since early C3 and nothing ever happened.

Lol get a life! This won't work anymore. Not on L2Off and any other normal server software.
Lucky treasure boxes are spawned randomly and will have same NPC id.

Dear Sherlock.

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that your assumptions are wrong, since I've been using this since 2 weeks (even using it right now!) and there was no single error in over 400 boxes.

You might as well use disasm to disassemble the NpcName-e.dat file and see for yourself. The two different kinds of treasure boxes are in 2 different places in that file as well.

You can also do a little research on L2wh.com.

Sorry to hear that you are either too dumb to get it working or that your private server has, as I already stated that they have, different mechanics.

Now, either post something useful or get your sorry ass out of my thread.

Sorry, but that's just not true. ^_^

There is that sentence which says that it won't work on L2J. It is red as well.

Don't make any assumptions about retail if you play on private servers.

Been reading about a 40% chance for a "box" on some board. But to be brutally honest, I have no clue about private servers, neither do I care.

And yes, I know that this is the wrong forum if you actually play on retail. :D

Anyways, several people reported that, on L2J servers, this does not work. Could also mean that the IDs for those chests are mixed up or something. At least, it differs from retail and thus is none of my concern ^_^;

Well...

Both kind of chests spawn at the same static spots in the world of L2.exe.
So if you kill/pop a chest/box, there is a 40% (50% as far as I know) chance, that a box pops up and 60% (50%!) that it becomes a chest (= mob).

The only difference, by the way, is the modified npcname-e.dat file some p. servers are using.

Modifying (patching) those is no big deal at all, but a shit job, since there are too many chronicles and servers.

Just a little hint, I patched the files for C4, C5 and Interlude [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...].
This was before they messed up the forum with the new... design and stuff.

As far as I know the files are still working. All you need to do is to rename the files (once downloaded) from filename.ibf to filename.dat.

Would someone kindly try this out? :3
I've got no L2 client here, since I quit my L2 career weeks ago.

€dit: Oh, no! It was filename.ibf to filename.rar!
Then decrypt it, PW is still thxjack.epvpftw. ^^'

€dit 2: Renaming works, just tested.

What about the Kamael CT1, anybody got a patch for that? I can't open npcnames -e.dat with anything so far. If anybody knows how to do it please be my guest.
