[ask] about the latest genesis patch

I'd like to ask some questions about PW after this patch, is there any improvement in the game engine itself ? It's very annoying that using old computer or newer computer, it doesn't seem to help/affect the framerates much, some ppl in other forum even mentioned it being in a slideshow quality when in a crowded environment such as territorial war or west archosaur where most ppl sell stuffs.

I agree to that and I would say sometimes it's even worse than a slideshow, especially in territorial war when many players battle at one area, for example at one of the participant's base when the opposing faction members attacking the crystal chip, both faction members all in one place.

I noticed yesterday the lowest framerate I got was 4-5 fps and 7 fps sometimes (even after tideborn patch). The performance hit is very annoying, it's said the engine used for pw (angelica 3d) doesn't support multi core processors. Newer computer system seems to only help for multiclienting purpose :p

one more thing, is cleric's mdef buff duration fixed (refreshed to 30mins/one hour after rebuff, depending on buff level/area buff) in this patch ? it's an annoying old problem which is most likely forgotten to be fixed, or is it really made that way for a purpose (I don't see any).

I haven't noticed any difference in performance really. My PC isn't really great, but it's decent and does still have some issues with large numbers of people around me :p

that's too bad, PW dev really should fix that low performance problem. It's frustrating gearing up our char only to find it's less useful because of low performance issue

btw Interest07, how's your ping playing on International Server like PWI, I haven't tried playing there but from most Indonesian players playing there, they complain about lag.

Here, even playing on a local server, lag happens everyday  eventhough my ping is only below 100ms. Dunno if it's my ISP's fault or PW id server's fault, but I think it's the latter since I can play other local games with no lag issue or not that often having lag. I wonder how many players may online at the same time/max player capacity for an mmorpg server such as PW can handle before the server suffers.

It's blur to really find out which one caused the bottleneck that ends up giving very low framerate, the engine itself, server bandwidth, too crowded/too many ppl online, but it's surely not on our pc's end.

my ping for PWI is around 300-500 ms (I'm from holland, so not exactly ideal for PWI), so I can't reliably cancel spells for example (unless I use a tool which cancels the instant a mob starts casting). I can't really judge if there's any additional lag from crappy server I'm afraid :p

lol yea, it's even harder to judge playing on international server, I remember playing on pw my en back then and got around 300-800ms response time.

Personnally, I'm running with a graphic card GTS 360M, and a Core i5 430M, for example, Mirror's Edge runs around 50-60 FPS (except heavy PhysX scenes). And my PWi runs about 5 FPS at Archo west, and like 20 FPS in normal zones with all parameters maxxed...

I noticed that water effects make Framerate go down, but it's a common effect...

The most weird thing, is that I used Nvidia Pannel to improve some parameters (filters, even anti-aliasing), it works and it doesn't affect much the framerate.

Another problem, is that I have to use an older driver to avoid serious lags with the terrain texture... I tried Nvidia 260.xx and it lagged so hard. x.x

yea, I read the problem with low framerates in PW lies in the engine itself which doesn't fully utilize the latest tech. That's why using older pc or even the latest pc, the lag where it's supposed to be lagged will still there :(

hope they'll make an update specifically to maximize performance so we get better framerates even in crowded area.

They use their own crappy engine, so it's unlikely they'll ever move on to bigger and better things. I believe somewhere along the production of PW the original team left and was replaced, therefore the game world is much smaller than it was supposed to be and lacking in certain features.

that's too bad, though in their latest game using the same engine (forsaken world, I think), it's said the engine is improved. Wonder why they don't apply the engine update to their other games. If only they can at least maintain the framerate at 20fps minimum even at crowded area, it'd be more fun to play

I run normally Ping 100-300 usually anywhere, high FPS even in archo. But never stays like that as I always multi client ;)
