Like I told you earlier creating an emulator isn't something easy.
Especially when you start from scratch. You need a good understanding of an programming language and get familiair with the tcp/ip networking stuff. Once you've understand the networking process you can start digging into the packets of silkroad. It might look like a lot abracadabra now but believe me if you learnt some network stuff and now how to sniff packets it starts to make more sense.

I recommend you to buy some good books about the language you would like to learn or find a really good online resource.

If you aren't going to start from scratch but use an open source emulator it would still require you to know how to program and to expand that emulator you have to know network sniffing/programming. and it will probably take some time to know how the data flows through that emulator cause most (if not all) open source emulators doesn't have very much comment in their code.

about that client I don't know where to get it. but you might try to just download the latest one get your open source emulator and once you know how to program you start updating it cause the first few packets doesn't change(or at least in isro they haven't changed for a while but i'm not really long in the network scene so i can't really tell you that).

btw the most important thing what you need is FREE TIME a lot of free time:)

well,the most important thing is to have an awesome base for your emu..
if your packet reader/writer,and the basic functions aren't good enough,it'll be a big fail..so spend some more time to make a good base,it worths it ;)

Nothing is easy:) if it would be easy to just hack joymax than the server files would be all over the web. and if creating an emulator would be very easy there would be a finished one. not to mention an scalable emulator.

Well i still don't know what you mean by "source codes"

You know source codes are the codes of a program well there are a few open source emulators "which means it has the source code in it". but you will never be able to get the code of the official silkroad server or the client.

There are quite a few open source project about silkroad at sourceforge and assembla so you could check them out you need a special program to download them like tortoiseSVN

it's more hard to create an emu with someone else's source,because he might have a different programming stlye,etc and you need to understand his way of thinking..^^

so it's easier to write your own code,I think so.

Tips
1-download arcane source
2-start from there :D
3-but first start with bases and increase stability but remember you must have team otherwise you will (fail)

Get into the Underground, I posted something there that might be interesting.
I can't tell you about it though, it's in the rules that I shouldn't.

What exactly is underground?:) is that that little stickied thread? what happens when you join it? do you have access to some secret thread or something like that?
