It is, yes. It's horrible.
Dubs over the actual language are common for public speeches (from politicians etc.) and interviews, and yes, it's incredibly annoying because the translated dub always has a delay of a couple of seconds.
There was an article about English TV recently by German news-site Zeit Online: [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] - the short of it: German folk's English is somewhat average compared to other EU countries despite incredible demand for English speaking workers. Non-dubbed TV could substitute English lessons. Folk are for non-dubbed TV.
Spoiler: It won't happen though, hell will freeze over before anything changes in Germany.

Btw, has anyone of you read The Kingkiller Chronicle? I've started reading the books again, now in English, and they're sooooo fckin good! Read them, go go! They're like 6-odd€ for the Kindle edition (the German edition is like 50-ish€, wtf?) so it's kind of a no-brainer. :p

A nice exception (which is due to lack of funds) is EinsPlus, they don't dub interviews etc. and sometimes air shows with English speaking narrators (e.g. sports events).
I think I once saw an interview with Edward Snowden which was actually in English, but aside from that, nothing.

Yep, C1.

I have to admit that I have absolutely no clue what TED talks is/are, is this [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] what you're talking about?

Why isn't there any tv channel for just anime with original voice and subs.
I would watch it everyday, no matter which anime.

I actually wouldn't mind an English synchronization, find myself enjoying it a lot more than the Japanese ones for the most part. There are exceptions, obviously, but in SAO for example, I thought that the English dubs were absolutely great. Or maybe I'm just too lazy to read subtitles all the time. :P

I hate dubs. They make my favorite character voice sound like a girl. That sounds gay. I rather like the Japanese voices and subtitles. I love to read a lot, so It's my way. :D

I guess I'm the only one around that doesn't like anime.

Hm. I'm just going to wait until the thread is either dead or the conversation topic changed.

:(

Official languages in Belgium are French, Dutch and German they all have their tv stations. The thing is (atleast in the dutch part of Belgium) we don't like dubs. We always keep movies in their original language, whatever that language might be, and put subtitles. When you'd go to Belgium, most people will be able to speak English.
Also, dutch isn't really an international language, so it really comes in handy to know other languages!

It's a shame. I guess when you have a country the size of Germany and you only have a single official language, you don't need a second language the way you do in smaller countries.
