Hey everyone. I know I'm going to make a few people mad today, but that's fine. Starting arguments on the internet really isn't that hard, but if you follow along and keep reading, hopefully there won't be any problems (not that there's anything you can do about it).
Burning Skies will continue under the same namespace "Project Ippiki-Ookami"; however, I've been researching into data structures and data management models, and I've decided to restart the project under a completely new software model. This was a difficult decision for me. Throwing out my old work and starting completely new on a new model, with a new focus on design instead of just implementation, was hard; however, if I continue designing with the new model I've created, not only will there be a massive performance boost in the server, but I'll have a more impressive project to show educators.
My career path has changed to a more defined focus in Software Engineering: Software Design. Although software implementation is a promising job, my passion lies in the challenges of designing software. This project has helped me figure that out. My goal is not to complete this project. My goal is to have a working implementation of my design by Spring 2013. I can't tell you why, but I hope you understand. I can't say it enough, this project is for education and research.
I've also been looking into software copyright laws and I've created a new legal document giving me full rights to my project and to the Conquer Online client. After negotiating with NetDragon Websoft, they have acknowledged my rights:
"According to Copyright Act of 1976, and the Fair Use, you're granted access to the content for your research, but you should keep in mind that we, the copyright holder, have exclusive rights to the content, so act within the guidelines."
The legal document protecting my development will be public within a few days before I begin development. I'm taking the appropriate steps in developing a private server, and if you all want to do this for your education like I am, this is how you do it. I'll be keeping the old posts on this thread for anyone interested in how I modeled those systems. The main post will be updated when development starts again.
Amazing things are happening because of this project. Hopefully, even though my server has never been online, it's helped some of you see what you can really do with a project like this.
Cheers,
Spirited Fang
