Yes CPU it's the double of the price.... but at least you dont need to buy double SSD,RAM,Motherboard,PSU,CASE,GPU.

The XEON it's also a good alternative if people wants more than 4 cores.. You could get good deals on ebay for second hand CPUs :D

I have i7 920 and its quite ok.. its basically the same as I7 2600K and so on...

AMD I have no clue..

You are comparing 6 core/ 12thread CPU with 8 core CPU... its not a good way to compare :p

But yes the 39XX and 49XX are power heavy consume machines.. If you want to save power go with XEON 6 core versions.

Oh, u guys are online now so I got a question for you:

Is Intel i7 4770 (without K) able to run 24 VMs stable?
And i7 4770k OC? Is it able to run 24 VMs (I guess that's not a problem). And how about 30, is there a chance for it or it requires 6 intel cores at least?

I'm about to buy machine for refs and that's why I put all these questions.

Nhc (or anyone else), is xeon better than i7 for refs? I guess it should be due to all these unnecessary things kicked out of this proc.
There are tons of Xeons on local "aka ebay site", but I don't know if it could be better than i7.
Some examples:
Xeon E3-1270 v2 & v3
Xeon E3-1275 v2 & v3
Xeon E3-1240 v2 & v3
Xeon E3-1245 v2 & v3
Prices of these Xeons are the same as i7-3770k/4770k prices (maybe like 5-10% lower for Xeons).
And how about these procs:
Xeon E5 2609 v2? Benchmark says Xeon E5 2609 (But without v2 - so it's "v1") is 2x worse than E3 12xx v3. But I guess that version makes difference.

I want to create the best spec which can hold (18? rather nope)24-30 vms. Are these Xeons able to hold 24 VMs?

AMD, I7, XEON what to go with it... hehe..

I7 vs XEON it's basically the same performance for VMS, XEON uses less watts. I7 wins for single thread applications like gaming :D and can be OC.

i7 8 cores 24 vms, yes that is possible, with right setup, win7 tiny, ssd. You can achieve that even if I say 18 vms in the FAQ its because not all are able to setup a nice machine to do it :D

For some reason since a few days, vmware doesnt connect to my internet...

I tried removing the Network adapter and adding it, didnt work :(
Tried also changing from bridged to NAT didnt work aswell... what can I do ?

On some VMWare it work on some it doesnt, even though they have the same settings...

I imagine one of you have been banned before. What is the message you received when accessing your account, if you been banned? 4 out of 6 accounts I created are inactive and I have no idea why.

Edit: I've figured the first question out. It does not mean the account is banned, but means that it's under some kind of investigation. Weird how it happened to 4 accounts who were leveling to 30 and had no contact with anyone else. I suppose the bug in which it sometimes goes to queue with only two accounts happened and I was reported, lol.

BUT, there is a chance it's a server bug, from what I've read.

Here is a build config for the Cheapest 24 VMs Computer possible.

The compontents are rly good priced ATM!

load time is about at 2:10 - 3:00 with 24 VMS
All of these component are inside 2 of my current systems so I can gurantee its working!


I personaly wouldnt go AMD any more just cause of the heat it creates but if you want to run many machines for little money you cant get around an AMD ;).

If you want i can also make a sample build for 30 Vms or 36 Vms. (Intel and way more expensive)

my expample is calulated between fx-8350 and 4770k ( not the 4930k but you should get the idea)

Power costs here in germany are quite high, so i hope you get my idea still if you life in a cheaper country. I have a electric meter in front of all my systems.
The system with the 4770k has besides of cpu same components and it uses around 50 Watt less than the AMD one. difference in Price is about 125€. and i pay around 24 Cent / kWh ( which is still quite ok for prices here).

So we have all data to calculate.
Power: 50 Watt more
Price difference: 125€
Runtime: 24 Hours a day
Cost: 0,24 € per kWh
Days after Intel becomes cost effective: X

24Hours * 50 Watt = (1,2kWh/day) difference
(1,2kWh/days)* (0,24€/kWh) = (0,288€/day) difference
125€ : (0,288/day) = 434 Days = 1 Year and 9 Weeks Time after Intel 4770k got cost effective

beside of that 4770k can run more machines and runs overall smoother than AMDs 8350. So its getting even more better just do the math.
Also the AMD gets extremely Hot! just because of the heat i wouldnt go with AMD anymore. Intel stays relatively cool. But still if you want the cheapest system ther is no way around an AMD.
