Actually, color is a legitimate word, although it's used in AE.

On a more serious side note, I really prefer BE over AE in most cases. Of course you might just speak AE, however being forced to stick to either one or the over, the ups prevail and so I go with BE.

Well, that's a decision everyone can do for himself/herself, I'd said. But what "ups" do you recognize in BE over AE?

Historically, BE is the only actual English. AE is a sort of BE influenced by many foreign languages, resulting in words that, at least to my ears, don't sound English.
