@aqualand

I tried running the bot using mono without success.

I am not a wine wizard, but I tried wine too and I failed as well.

Unfortunately I currently use a Windows Vitual machine

Hi, I managed to make it working under Linux (Ubuntu 10.10)... well, at least in part :)

A short tutorial for those interested:
-prerequisite: Wine installed
Then, in terminal (all instructions from WineHQ site):
Quote:
wine reg delete "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework"
wget [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]
winetricks dotnet10
winetricks dotnet20
Afterwards, download dotnetfx35.exe from somewhere. Presuming is in your home directory:
Quote:
wine ~/dotnetfx35.exe
At this point, when I started the bot I had some error message and the menu file was not shown.
For this:
Quote:
winetricks gdiplus
Well, after that, the bot is starting smoothly, without any glitches.
Now comes the problem, and please Uthar, maybe you can help: is not linking to server!
I use same settings as I use on a Windows operating system, where the bot is running without problems.

However, it seems that bot is reaching the server, because if I'm in browser, and I'm trying to refresh then I get the connecting message and I have to reconnect again.

Debug.txt output:
Quote:
1/25/2011 9:55:34 AM Unable to connect to the remote server

1/25/2011 9:55:34 AM Connection to server lost. Reconnect in 300 seconds
When I try to test mail, I get this message "The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure."

So, @Uthar, could you please give me an idea?
Thanks anyway for your bot, is a great tool.

This can be caused by a proxy or firewall setting. Normally when you are using Windows you can start IE and change the proxy settings, no idea how you should do this when using Wine.
Also you could check if a firewall is blocking the connection.

This normally means that the mail server has an invalid certificate. Are you using gmail for sending the emails or an other server?

Proxy settings I can manage from Firefox. Is set to "No proxy". Don't think I have problems with firewall although i'm using a router, normal browser has no problems, unless is another port using, so I have to forward the port...

As I said, my opinion is that the remote server is reached and connection is made somehow or at least something is happening because I'm disconnected from the Grepolis connection I use at the same time (using completely another IP, different location, another computer using Windows 7).

Regarding the other issue, I do have a gmail account and I can access it using Firefox. I don't have a mail server as far as I know, besides I'm not acquainted with validation certificates, so is over my expertise...

Anyway, I'm still digging...

About the proxy setting. The .NET Framework uses the IE engine when connecting to websites, this means that it will look in the registry for your IE settings. When you change your Firefox proxy settings it wont have any effect.
But it isn't really sure that the problem is caused by proxy/firewall settings, it is also possible that Wine and .Net Framework don't work well together.

You don't have to know much about the mail server. As long as you have "smtp.gmail.com" for the Server and Port "587". (With of course a valid username/password). If you have this and it isn't working that I think you problem is Wine related.

Big thanks to Rattle72.

A few remarks:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Wine installed. Usually this is not the version that you find in the standard repositories. Otherwise winetricks may not work properly.

2. If you are an Ubuntu user and you use the deb package in the [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...], you will find that winetrixks is already installed.

3. When you issue winetricks command, use the form "sh winetricks". So the command to install dotnet 1 should NOT be .

winetricks dotnet10

but it SHOULD BE:

Code:
[B]sh winetricks dotnet10[/B]
Other than that there is really a problem connecting (or rather stay connected) with the Grepolis server and I also confirm that gmail notification does not work (same error message that Rattle72 said).

I installed Internet Explorer 6 on Linux (it's the most compatible Internet Explorer), just to set the internet options, but it did not really work.

Here is what I did.

I ran winetricks

Quote:
sh winetricks
The GUI comes up (yes I am a GUI kind of guy) and you simply check the box that says "Internet Explorer 6".

After the installation was completed I zeroed my privacy and security settings and I made sure that there was no proxy in the settings. IE could browse the internet normally.

The problems persist, as if nothing changed.

One thing though. there was no internet connection specified in the internet options box, nor could I setup one. This could possible make a difference.

If anyone has an idea, I'd love to hear it.

Questions pls: :-)

1.What happens if you clicked on a building to queue it but you dont have the resources???
2. Will the bot still follow the building and attack queue even if its turned off??

thnaks!
