just curious: even if you exchange all visual files / assets with new ones, the area, layout and naming are mostly still 99% the same - so I would think that doesn't make your project less sueable

not a lawyer, but just my 2 cents

I love the style of the map, looks cool! Still hyped for the project, maybe you could open a discord server (its free) to share some news and discuss changes etc with your fans (lul)

It is super clear that the project may never be **legally** commercialized even if all images, server & client codes are redone from scratch as IP clause governs all viable aspects of the game.

Nevertheless you can come up with an IP such as SilkroadTimes and build an mmo with similar names of cities such as jangan donwhang and hotan as those are actual city names.
Though the structure of map should be different. The quests should be different. The character visuals should be different. The npcs and mobs should be different.

Most importantly, the caravan system should be addressed differently.

How I see this project is a couple of die hard fans with skills acting with their passion. And I really support it for that amateur spirit.

For all that work they put there, they can always display it if they want to pursue a career in game industry.

If they have commercial ambitions it is a bad business decision since they can't release it beyond sites like epvp.

And neither Unity nor Unreal has got **ready made** efficient foundation for mmo networking. It is a challenge and marketed assets on that manner are a big hassle to provide a solution. Yet if unreal engine was the medium I d have contacted people like Drew Benton who is still active on gamedev site. I am sure he wouldn't mind sharing a couple of words around ASIO library w C++ implementations.
