Just because the thread didn't turn out the way you'd like doesn't mean it should be closed. I think it's a relevant discussion and it's not off-topic so I see no reason really why it should be closed. That is no longer your choice. You can't have a spam argument thread remain open because you want it to as the original poster. The board doesn't work that way.
