If you found their IP and traced it to their ISP, then you weren't being attacked by a DDOS attack but rather a normal DOS attack. A DDOS attack involves a network of computers attacking at the same time.

Often, the DDoS attackers are not aware that they are engaging in a DoS attack against a site, and are duped (technically or physically) into joining the attack by a third party.
Just to set your mind straight as this is a normal misunderstanding.
