Don't want to keep spamming this thread with updates, so if anyone wants to see more updates from the private server I'm working on:

Glad to see a project of this version, I really liked it, Main.swf is much easier to deal with and the game is much lighter.
I'm also assuming the target season is late 2009 early 2011, when we had that weird little beta with the blue UI.
So: no RSB, EMP, Skill Designs and Skill Tree? I also know these things exist in this client so it's nothing that won't be easy to deploy in the future.

You're right. RSB might be added later on. EMP doesn't sound unreasonable to add. Skill designs I'm definitely not a fan of and skill tree will be added once there is a decent player base and people have reached endgame.

unreal is a cancer pit if you decide to implement MP at a later stage... make sure that everything you do is with MP in mind...

Hi everyone I have a quick question. I was wondering how all these private Darkorbit servers are possible. I am not expecting a full guide or anything of course. Was Darkorbit's source code leaked at some point and people built tools around it? Or did people download the assets like ship models, map backgrounds etc.(maybe because the game is flash based and some parts can be downloaded and "decompiled") and wrote the "back end"? Maybe I am writing total nonsense but yeah how is Darkorbit private servers are possible?

PS: Sorry for long text.

The game was reverse-engineered to figure out how to redirect packets to a different host.
And also to find out how specific packets work.

The first "public" private server project was this:

It's what essentially bootstrapped all private servers. Shortly after Xdr made a C# version which also accelerated things.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]

At the same time, there were 2 big private servers that were closed source that gave people hope for a good alternative.
One was from @[Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] and the other was PvPUniverse.

Unfortunately, both have been closed since, and now there are only a handful of competent servers (if even) and they all come with their own issues (as far as I've heard).

I am working on a server right now though.

Thanks for the answer. I will try your server when it releases :)
