Work-around for the custom model fix (1.11)

06/28/2006 02:46 Russakko#31
I did everything as told, and I get some "ERROR #131 (0x85100083) File Corrupt" error.
Well, gotta try to solve it.

edit: Got rid of that, now nothing happens when I open WoW.

edit2: ok, everything is working (finally at ED). I did this with winmpq, had wrong compression on or something.

THANKS!

Just want to add that it don't work if you name the file patch2.mpq. Tried that, didnt work renamed to speech2.mpq = Worked.

Since 1.11 WoW will no longer look in the data folder for model/sound swapping.

The workaround?

1. Open mywarcraftstudio
2. In menu go to: pack -> create mpq archive. Call it whatever you want, doesn't matter
(EDIT: Apparently it must be called the same as an existing mpq, but with a number 0-9 behind it eg. speech2.mpq) edit: patch2 will not work apparently
3. Add your files to swap into the mpq, make sure you enter the right folder location
4. Open WoW

Tested with my swapped fire elemental voidwalker, and it works fine :D

Edit2:Thanks to people who gave me +karma :)
it works ^_^

It only works with mywarcraftstudio though... which kinda sucks, but it's much better than nothing. Update to latest warcraft studio so you can put in long strings when you are adding a file.

well i've tryed everything and i cannot get it to work..

After you copy your files in, and rename it to patch.mpq, Are you suppose to replace the other patch.mpq in your data folder? Or name it patch#.mpq and put it in data, either way. none of them work.

Also tryed manually editing a copyed patch.mpq and changed the file names and models etc. Just crashed the game over and over.

any hints would be great

EDIT: By blind luck, i decided to try naming it speech2.mpq in the main data folder, and wtf do you know it works..

So for anyone having my trouble, try naming it "speech2"
