What you're referring to is actually called dynamic pricing, sad to see you think this is in any way shady or malicious, your explanation of dynamic pricing sadly isn't correct see wiki:

Dynamic pricing is a very common pricing strategy and necessary for guild wars 2 as item value in guild wars 2 constantly changes, thus the real life value changes as well. The prices on my site are based on the 1st listed item value on the trading post ingame. The site clearly says at the bottom of the page the price information is not necessarily for trading purposes as I'm simply not always able to provide an item for x price. (Which is why I require all my customers to contact me before a trade is actually made). If you would like to discuss this further please contact me by PM or skype.
