clients dont use a database, they use a data.pak(or an upacked data.pak) and they contain csv(comma separated value) files, and they dont have a damned thing to do with a database

ffs, there are 3 tools in my signature, u can figure most things out simply, just click the links and use them . . .

are u serious???

a database is a program that collects, retrieves, and stores data in a single medium, so it can be accessible to another medium or application of some sort for the purpose of writing to AND reading from DYNAMICALLY.

the data.pak is a collection of STATIC csv files, compressed into a single file, and only data can be retrieved for the sole purpose of loading it into memory so it can be READ by the client.

if you call the data.pak a database, then ANY and ALL files can be classified the same way.

you know noble, im not even going to entertain w/e need you have to argu with me, its starting to get disturbing, the only reason you jumped on here was to start a flame war with me, and normally i would oblige, but in ur case its like fucking an invalid and i refuse to have any part of it, i made an accurate, informed statement, that holds true to the fact and i firmly stand by the statement

data.pak is nothing more then a collection of text files, animation files, mesh files, and dds texture files compressed into a single file similar to a .zip or .rar file. it is not in any way shape or form a 'database' anymore than a email is.

please, for your own sake, learn when to keep ur mouth shut, u look like a complete moron . . .

awww what a idiot you r. a database not just collecting data and store it. so what is the purpose of collecting datas?? to use it to read it. a database is a place store all the datas. pak is just a file formal. but it's a database where storing all the important datas that run a game. all above files you mention is a part of database that need to run a agame. lol understand nw boy??

euhm... your file is kinda useless
here is why:

you added the options to lvl 160 right ?
well if you take a closer look at osds you will see that all weapons + armor
are converted into a table in the database "osds"
it will pull item info from there, if you lvl 160 weapons are not in there
you will not be able to send them ... cuz there is no data of 160 items
you need to add them to your database and then you can send them

Noble... Dude, hes totally right. Your, wrong, end this. Simple. A database can be dynamically updated, with the use of PHP and SQL queries. A .pak file cannot. It is a READ-ONLY file with the sole intention to load itself into the games memory.

You're misinterpreting the phrasing going on here. True, a database is a collection of files, but when referring to P-Server Hosting, the database is what is driving the game, constantly being queried by the dekaronserver.exe to keep the game running smoothly. When you level up for instance, you get 5 stat points here is the order in which it happens:

1. You get enough XP for your next level
2. The server recognizes this, compares your XP to the Req. in the DATABASE
3. If the statement comes back as XPyouHAVE > XPforNextLevel; you level up

Those 3 steps are in the DATABASE, all your stats, money, items, XP, etc, etc etc. are all stored and can be updated DYNAMICALLY by the server. Your .pak file cannot, ergo; its not a database. Its a meager collection of files.

You can continue this flame war with me over PM, but you are wrong so just deal with it. A database is server-sided, a .pak file is client sided. Its not dynamic, so your argument that it IS a database is completely obsolete. Sorry.

A database is something where data is stored in, thats what the word means.
Data Base... The base of data, data's storing place...

Quote:
A database is an integrated collection of logically-related records or files consolidated into
a common pool
that provides data for one or more multiple uses.
Source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Database

And that pool here is data.pak.
Never argue with Wikipedia ;)
