What is happening to EPVP - Conquer Section

i say give developers a reason to release shit to public once more and see how it will all change, maybe egys fucked up but you also fucked up when you decided to start the underground (not you Spirited but whoever made the underground), you guys simply separated the forum with a private section for a few forcing any experienced or willing to work members to leave the forums, so yeah you should expect to end up with idiots for the sake of epvp reputation

in a nutshell, give people motive to boost the forum and release everything from the underground to here, that should make it somehow less shitty
There is nothing in UG worth releasing. It's been dead for years now (minus the occasional thread asking about it's status lol)

As for why UG was created, leechers. Well that and TQ.
If anything 'good' would be posted on the public sections (ie botjail bug or so) it would get abused to shit and patched within a day or 2.

Our 'scene' has pretty much moved from (public) forums to private skype groups.
Not that 'that matters, CO dev has been dead for a while now.

Why do we have 10 million DBC Converters?? (Wich are completely obsolete because of tqs WDB Tool)
Could be interesting to make a stickied thread linking to all tools. But in general, people will search for them and find them anyway.

I'm the only moderator and to be honest, it's not my n°1 priority. But in all cases, there isn't much to moderate either.

Would be nice. You're almost reporting everything, so... Could be more efficient if you had the ability to clean things yourself :p For the rule against any staff member owning a private server, I imagine that it's to avoid unfair promotion/decision, but maybe exceptions could be made (would need to see with admins).

I'll reply to your application ASAP.

So, I'm not the only one to be unable to find my old posts when I know exactly what I'm looking for... The search engine is provided by vBulletin. I'm not sure the indexing can be changed easily.

You've read my mind.

Players that still care about conquer private servers are overwhelmed by the amount of garbage servers that are out there, and they don't have a trusted list or source of information to tell them which ones are shit and which ones are actually worth playing.

Any way, Threads in the Guides/Releases section has to be approved by a mod first so I don't see why they can't make the pserver section work the same way.
Threads in the Guides/Releases section are not approved by a mod. Only in the Bots/Hacks sections.

----

Edit. I'll try to be more strict on what is allowed here. Giving more warnings/infractions if required and deleting threads.

Restructuring the forums won't help. IMHO, CO2 is dead because of the community; Spirited pointed the right thing about it. Thorev also stated a true thing: the development that's still done around it moved away from public forums. This section will never be again what is used to be years ago. I wish so damn hard to be true, but unless a nuke falls, it won't happen.

I personally only see 2 ways for reviving the CO dev scene.

1. TQ actually releases CO3 with new engine and we all make threads about how shit their code is and new tools/hacks get released.

2. TQ shuts down CO (NA) and the private scene takes over since you'd have an actual player base due to no 'official' alternative.

I really don't see any point to it since realistically nothing will change. It's a predictable pattern.
Real coders release things and then the egys swarm in with countless servers that they claim to fully code followed by bitching at the community for not helping for simple errors. It has happened with lotf, coemu, bins, trinity, and whatever is out now.

Besides CO3, only other thing I can see increasing activity would be a custom client so private server can actually be different for a change instead of "jiang 100% fully working" everywhere.

TQ announced a long time ago that the initial CO 3.0 project had been abandoned. It was announced that instead of releasing CO 3.0, there would be a transition from CO 2.0 to 3.0, which is basically TQ's way of saying: "Fuck off, we'll just keep adding stupid, unwanted, unneeded crappy features to drain the pockets of the people who are retarded enough to keep paying for this shit - and call it CO 3.0".

As for the private server scene, I really don't think there's any need for custom clients at all. What's needed is the motivation to do something different, but let's be honest, everyone who has the experience and knowledge to make a nice, unique private server just don't give a shit [about CO] anymore.

There's several custom clients in the works right now.
Most notable is Sengoku's, which no one will be able to compete with graphically because of Zaro. But this is mostly a client asset remake, though there are some seriously interesting coding mysteries that Util cooked up.

Besides remakes that I know of...
  • There's one fellow with great progress who's got a client using OpenTK. Animations, map loading, chat, simple interface, other client-server networking stuff.. possibly the most complete full remake atm and it's hard to tell it from the original besides the interface.
  • Angelius has an impressive client in C++, not sure if he's continuing development (no activity on his thread)
  • I started on a remake in Unity a few days ago as a side project with Throne, Unity is noob friendly and I've got tilesets loading as [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] (minus tiles in data.wdf), working on getting them loaded into terrain components based on the puzzle data.

Someone will finish a custom client at some point in the next 10 years. Lol

But doesn't this create more of a reason to focus on private development?.. something can easily be done about these issues, long-term.
