What version of Windows are you running on this machine? It should be XP at best.
My last guess would be a bad hard drive, but this is uncommon to only show up in a particular game or application.

Depending on the version of Windows you are running, you may be able to take a look at the events your system has recorded during your attempt on playing the game, if there are any.
To take a look at the events, press the Windows key and R at the same time.
A "Run" window appears. Enter "eventvwr.msc" and hit return/enter.
