Are you really sure it works with the current Rappelz version?

Version 6.5.0 is old ( 2008/09/23) and a lot has changed since 2008.

@teatdrive: Are you using 64 bit windows? I wouldn't expect the performance out of a vm solution to be anything really playable.. but it would serve the purpose of a buff slave or trade items to your main char.. stuff like that.

Hmmm I will check this out tonight but I'm just worried that this method will be more trouble than its worth since it does not make any mention of editing GameGuard files and I'm thinking there will be a nasty error popping up complaining that GG is already initialized if I try to dual client.

EDIT:
I did not get the chance last night to try this out but I would like to hear some feedback from others that have tried this.

VMware workstation actually works
after about long hours of fighting here are hints :

how to :
* Download and install VMware workstation (vmplayer might work, didn't try)
* Set up a VM, my working VM uses 6.55 GB with a copy of rappelz
* Get a s/n for it, yeah the 30d trial refuses to run the VM !
* Install your XP on the VM
* Not sure if it is necessary but i added : SP1 ; SP3
* Dx march 09 (this is necessary)
* Run Dxdiag and see that D3D is disabled (can skip this step !)
* Alter your .vmx to add mks.enable3d = TRUE and svga.vramSize = 134217728 at the end of the file. this enables D3D support

Now starts the hard part : network configuration
* Check out your firewall for bridge/nat denial (KPF free needs to be turned off when you run the game, you can turn it on again when logged in)
* If you use hamachi or something similar, make sure the host searches the true NIC first (in connexion > advanced menu > advanced > order)
I was able to check buddies PCs via hamachi but not google :(
* Both NAT or bridge works for me, went for bridge
* The allmighty window is the "Virtual Network Editor" in the edit menu of the VM workstation, there you can configure your networks
* I have desactivated VMnet1 and host-only on the host which are not necessary

note : I have not tried sharing the rappelz folder, i'll try that some day, it might shrink the VM size needed :)

Of course if you have an easier method that does not involves virtualizing, i'm interessed !

Now it should work ! you can now dual box
I think i have not forgotten anything ...

Enjoy

@Altaric2: You didn't have any issues with the video rendering when the game is loaded? I wonder if its the specific version of Direct X that you mentioned that makes the difference..
06/29/2009 23:16 Altaric2#30
I had, but they went away as i enabled D3D acceleration in the vmx

I also have artefacts such as no texture on the minimap, making it useless
but it's no biggie, a heal bot would work perfectly i believe, especially if you can have the VM cursor independant of the host's

you may also have the VM crashing sometimes with a cpu-0 something error => add /NoExecute=AlwaysOff to your boot.ini (if not done yet)

Before trying VMware, i have tried virtualbox too :
* no problem with networking even with FW
* no D3D support => use of wineD3D
* could not get it to work
