I would recommend c++ for this project. Don't get me wrong c# is a great language but most of what u need in c# can be done with c++ without all the clutter that c# comes with. Then again most vps are powerful enough I don't believe you will notice much of a difference.

Java is painfully slow lol...
Especially if you'd want it to handle a lot of users( and other things that need to be done)

Well I think you'll be losing your time, there's already some different kinds of server files out there, and to be honest I doubt SRO will last much longer, and for sure not enough time to make a complete emulator. But for fun and to learn It will be cool:)

About the language is pretty clear, of course is stupid to talk about Java for an emulator. You will have to use C for obvious reasons..

btw..c++ would be a good solution, but not for a small team, with not many experience about these stuffs, cause it's just harder to develop something in c++,requires more skills,w/e.

depending on my last conversation with Xsense
He will continue working on his emulator, as you know it's open source ;)

That's obvious xD if they don't have a strong experience on team coding and the language itself... And obviously not only the language but the kind of coding too. This is about packets and so on, and when you are making bussiness stuff you don't do this same kind of things

Public system with .xml? Talking about web services or not, any kind of file treating will be a cons unless it is for configuration values that are stated once before the server running itself.

Otherwise you can't expect treating with a .XML in live when you got thousands of queries all the time.

I would make it open source for sure. There's already plenty kind of server files out so there's no reason to keep it in 'secret', due to the Silkroad Online scene status you will need all the help you can gather for this before SRO ends.

I don't see any reason why not to make it open source

To be honest I don't think he is skilled enough to do it alone and as Getza said, he won't be done in time before SRO dies. Open source is excellent, everyone who feels like it can contribute. Imagine if around 20 people are working on it, would be done in no time.

you are true. but i make a team for develop this emu not alone :)
