We cannot use the alpha channel to "add" anything to the texture, nor logically to the model aswell. A cowboy hat sticked with the garment would recquire some mesh editing, which is something we cannot do 'cause of limited plugins.
But you could make a cowboy hat model and place it as a headgear item, that's doable =p

Keep going dude, your texturing is getting better
about editing a headgear and make it look like a cowboy hat, you lose the option
of editing garments to make a cowboy alike outfit, i know goodluck shows your
hairstyle, other garms got their own hairstyle which hides the headgear..
on the good side, deleting a part using alpha channel ( or a similar method ) makes
the deleted part transparent in the game, so a tao robe is the best choice to edit.
