To be honest I can't remember myself too well everything that happened around that time. You be surprised that was over 5 years ago. The early eSRO project which started here was garbage, that was around 2008. That was a 'project' as I called it, which was attempting to fix the server files of the time or source out new ones. Throughout this time, I was just being the community/project manager if you were, I had little development knowledge. Windrius joined it and it started becoming more emulator orientated. It did not really get anywhere till 2009 when Npcdoom joined and we recoined what eSRO meant as "Emulator Silkroad". We then took on his emulator base. We dropped people that were not needed at this point. I just carried on my role, but got involved with packet analysis. I think it was around this time we had those german forums and John Dread was actually part of the project. You probably remember that point.
We developed from this point and posted occasional updates. We didn't release a beta till 2010 which was under the name Zelos Online. It was the most successful emulator server that was around for that time, I believe the last day it was online it had at least 100 people playing and no crashes. We had issues with one of the team members who was in charge of the hosting and just stopped the project, I think some of us were fed up of working on it for so long (issue was Npcdoom worked). Not many people will remember it now, but it was shunted a lot because it had a long development time and on the release of beta it did have some crash issues which were actually solved in a week.
That was my whole Silkroad experience really for 2-3 years and also the time before that when I played. I learnt a lot over this time. I was 16 then, I would do things a lot differently now and it would of achieved more. I do miss those times though, seems there are not so many old users around here any more. I would get involved in something now - but as I said seems the game/community is slowly dwindling.
