Thank you for updating the links.

I'm new here, and I am looking foreward to setting up my first private EO server. It seems like most of the EO server emulation software I've come across until now have been either extremely shady or were hosted on Mega Upload (Which, as you know is currently down.) For the most part, this appears to be the best release out of all the ones I've looked at, but I've run into a small snag.

4shared's McAfee scan reports reports that the .rar contains the BackDoor-AWQ.b trojan, and a local scan with Windows Security essentials reports Backdoor:Win32/Pasur!rts.

I have noticed that I'm not the first person to point this out:

The replies for the above posts weren't entirely satisfying:

anyways to make it work u can exclusion this account server at your antivirus setting..then it should work properly..:)
Assuming that this is just a 'false postive' - If what Rexes says about the way the file is packaged being the cause of false reports is true, is there any way you could package it in a way that does not look suspicious to most anti-virus software?

Assuming that this isn't a 'false positive' - Being that the file is consistently being reported as a Backdoor/Trojan specifically, I wouldn't expect anybody to notice any adverse effects to thier system at all (that would defeat a trojan's purpose, after all), so the lack of 'bad reports' alone isn't entirely comforting.

I'm not trying to imply that this is an intentionally planted Trojan, rather, I'm more interested in learning specifically why this file is being reported as such, and why nothing can/has been done about it since it was first reported over three years ago.

I'm hesitant to use this software until I can get some proper assurance, as much as I would like to jump straight into EO.

to make a long story short

the file is reported as a virus because it open certain ports that are in use by the gameserver and that are ports that are not suposed to be open (check port list and meaning of the ports)

on the other side , some code of the accountserver (thats the only file that get reported) do some stuff that act like a trojan , like keeping a connection open and forward other connections to a differend port

a other example i can give of a false trojan are files that are encoded with base64
i got a hex scanner on my server , and if i upload 2 times the same file , where 1 file is coded with base64 and a other file not , then the base64 file triggers my scanner because of strange looking code

virus scanners works with a algoritme , it checks on ceratain strings in the code
as all files have a certain code is it possible that it can contain a specific string of code that match a virus
thats why they call it a false positive

if a virus scanner need to open every single file , analyse every singe file and then close every single file ... do you got 10 days time to scan 10GB ??
so for a quick scan they scan a fingerprint or something like that

anyway
if you do not trust the file , then do not use it
then a sidenote about the reported trojans

take a look at those links and then feel free to ask around who got that problem

i do got some reports of spam mails that get sended out , but i never got it on my own servers when i runned private servers
so probaly the spam mails that get sended out has to do with other programs that the users use (no idea , i never get on a client his vps :D )

so hopely this is enouf information for you

Oh yes, the information you've provided is plenty sufficient for me. I'm going to get started on my server right away.

Thank you, Chaos.

UPDATE: I've downloaded the file and have attempted to extract it twice. Both times I recieved the following error: "CRC failed in 'data.Dnp'. File is broken" (I'm using 7zip, if that makes any difference). Would somebody kindly double-check to make sure the file didn't get corrupted during the upload? I'd like to know if it's just something on my end.
