:S Some of us just want our mods to be fully functional again. The idiots are ruining it for us. The difference between the real hackers and
the wannabe hackers (leechers, script kiddies, etc) is that the real hackers have the information but they don't necessarily abuse it or use it
maliciously while idiots will, most of the time, abuse it and/or use it maliciously.
As an example, I "hack" games to improve FPS and client side lag or to improve the GUI, etc. In the course of doing so, I often find
vulnerabilities that I could exploit (I usually do a test if it isn't something that is dangerous just to 'document' it-aka prove it is truly possible).
After I have enough vulnerabilities, I often will send an "anonymous" tip to the developers about said vulnerabilities. Obviously, this is only if I
found the vulnerability myself. If someone else found it, then as far as I'm concerned, it is on them what they do with the information they have.
Thus, I keep my abuse of said information to a minimum and I don't use said information for malicious purposes. And that is the real difference
between what I see so often here and what I see elsewhere. Here, half of what I see is: "How do I [break the game and cheat in some way]" or
"How do I [break the game and make other people miserable]" . And you see quite a few people going "Give me! I deserve all this because I'm the
center of the world."
Elsewhere, it is mostly, "How can we get the developers to fix this?" or "How can we patch this?" or even "This is how to do this" And you see
people greeting each other, thanking each other, etc. You see people going "Can you explain how you did this? Thank you."
I'll be honest, I'm waiting for someone to just out of the kindness of their heart let me have a copy of a working patcher
(whether MNG, fantasia, or w/e). I don't even care if it enables pake or not (I really only used pake to try to fix things anyways).
The reason being simply that I don't have the time to fix things up myself as I'm running around trying to get a job.
(I don't even have time some days to log in for this AP potion event)
(And yes, I know I'll never get one just waiting.)
