But again that comes back to the playerbase aspect I was talking about. The fact that Rohan has a fraction of Aion's means that "devs" will be a lot more protective about their work.
A game like Aion will also attract a more "professional" type of dev from the outset whilst Rohan has been mainly run by wannabes with a bit of coding knowledge. From day 1 it's been incredibly toxic with dev A trying to outdo dev B.
Just as an example, the original Xor was probably the best server we had and ever will get. It was run by people who initially had no knowledge of Rohan. Ion was the same although the owner eventually flaked out (so did the Xor lot really), disappeared and the anti-hack owners rightly pulled the plug. Then there's Chronos but I don't think that will turn out to be all that's promised, mainly due to the state of the playerbase and nobs trying to fuck over the owner.
So is it any surprise that the best servers have been run by non-Rohan players? No, not to me. Rohan, despite its qualities, has always been a fringe game and because of that, it attracts people from the fringe. Black knights instead of white knights. The sort of people who want to make a quick buck at the expense of others.
I just wished Req would have let me know that this was his server. He should know that I wouldn't have let anyone know if he needed or wanted my help, not that he would but he knows that I would be happy to give my assistance to him and keep it confidential.
He has among the best knowledge of mapserver modding which is why this server really could have been something pretty awesome. I hope, what with Yurneroo bailing out of R2, he doesn't abandon the scene altogether.
Not that there's much left of it really.
