I'm attending my first year of college at University of California, Irvine, in a few months. I don't have much money or a place to stay long-term yet, but I'm looking into getting student loans to pay for tuition (I likely would have had to do this even if I stayed home). I'm basically looking for tips on how to continue my path through college and find a cheap place to live. What should I do? edit: I just got back from a long night out. To clear up some misconceptions: My mom ripped my cellphone out of my pocket as I was leaving, so there's no chance of her calling me back. I highly highly doubt she will take me back, but I'm still willing to try. I'm the middle child of 3, so there's no "only child syndrome" going on The advice you guys gave here is really good. I've been working 2.5 out of the last 3 years during high school starting from my 15th birthday, averaging 15 hours a week, and was making payments to my family the entire time. I actually was and still am applying for jobs ranging from retail to waitering positions, but there are no openings nearby at the moment. edit3: My current plans are to go to the Irvine Spectrum and follow up on a possible job prospect there, then amble around Irvine for a while to buy some clothes, toiletries, and food. Nobody has followed up on letting me couchsurf anywhere yet, so I'll likely find a library and use their internet until I can find a place in biking distance to sleep for the night.
