I completely agree.
This is exactly why I use Zygor. My priority is completion rather than speed.
Dugi will be releasing his own guide, along with some additional features for the addon, which look promising. However, I’m not particularly keen on the guides themselves.
RestedXP (RXP) focuses heavily on speed. While it can get players to max level quickly, they may reach the level cap with less gold, weaker gear, and less overall progression in other areas. I prefer to take a little longer and reach max level with gold, decent gear, and a more complete experience.
Polestar looks promising, although I haven’t used it myself.
Guidelime is another option. It’s free, and it’s also what RXP used to create its guides. It has a following among players who prefer a free alternative.
Azeroth Auto Pilot is another option worth considering.
Ultimately, it comes down to how each player wants to level and what they want to achieve along the way. Some players prioritise reaching max level as quickly as possible, while others prefer a more balanced approach that focuses on progression, gold, gear, and the overall experience before hitting the level cap.
WoW Leveling Addons Compared – RXP, Zygor, Dugi, GuideLime, Polestar & More
I've been looking into the different leveling addons available for World of Warcraft and wanted to compare the main options, their strengths and weaknesses, and what makes each one worth using.
The main contenders are RestedXP (RXP), Zygor, Dugi, GuideLime, and Polestar, along with alternatives such as Questie and Azeroth Auto Pilot.
Each addon has a different approach. Some focus on leveling speed and optimized routes, others prioritize convenience and a polished interface, while others offer free, community-driven solutions.
1. RestedXP (RXP)
Pros:- Optimized routes focused on efficient leveling.
- Clear, step-by-step instructions.
- Quest tracking and waypoint navigation.
- Good for leveling multiple characters.
Cons:- Some guides require payment.
- Routes can feel restrictive if you prefer exploring.
- Efficiency can suffer when quest mobs are contested or you deviate from the route.
Verdict: One of the strongest options for players who prioritize leveling speed, especially in Classic.
2. Zygor Guides
Pros:- Polished interface and guided progression.
- Wide range of guides, depending on the WoW version.
- Convenient quest tracking and navigation.
- Useful for activities beyond leveling.
Cons:- Requires a paid subscription for the full offering.
- May be overkill if you only need a leveling guide.
- A polished interface doesn't necessarily mean the fastest route.
Verdict: A strong all-in-one option for players who value convenience and a comprehensive guide library.
3. Dugi Guides
Pros:- Established leveling and navigation system.
- Step-by-step objectives.
- Additional guides for other activities.
Cons:- Paid access.
- Hard to rank against RXP and Zygor without direct testing.
- May not suit players who prefer flexible routes or dungeon-heavy leveling.
Verdict: A worthwhile alternative, particularly if you prefer its interface and navigation style.
4. GuideLime
Pros:- Free addon framework.
- Supports community-created guides.
- Step-by-step instructions and navigation.
- Flexible guide selection and customization.
Cons:- The addon itself is a framework, not one complete leveling route.
- Guide quality depends on the author.
- Finding and installing the right guide can take extra effort.
Verdict: A great free option, provided you find a well-maintained guide that suits your needs.
5. Polestar Guides
Pros:- Free and open source.
- Uses simulation-based route generation.
- Includes navigation and objective tracking.
- Offers a different approach to route optimization.
Cons:- Designed specifically for WoW Forever rather than general Retail leveling.
- Simulated route times don't guarantee the same results in real gameplay.
- Route coverage and development maturity should be considered.
Verdict: An interesting option for WoW Forever players, but its performance should be evaluated separately from established Retail and Classic addons.
6. Other Alternatives
Questie- Pros: Excellent quest tracking and map assistance, particularly in Classic. Gives you the freedom to choose your own route.
- Cons: Doesn't provide a complete optimized leveling route.
Azeroth Auto Pilot- Pros: Historically popular for guided Retail leveling with minimal decision-making.
- Cons: Routing can be inconsistent, and current compatibility needs checking.
Joana's Guide- Pros: A well-known option for traditional Vanilla leveling routes.
- Cons: Vanilla routes aren't automatically suitable for other expansions.
Quick Comparison
- RestedXP: Best for speed-focused leveling; some guides are paid.
- Zygor: Best for a polished, comprehensive guide system; subscription required.
- Dugi: Good for guided leveling and navigation; paid access.
- GuideLime: Best for free, customizable guides; quality depends on the guide pack.
- Polestar: Interesting simulation-based routing for WoW Forever.
- Questie: Best for quest tracking and exploration without a fixed route.
- Azeroth Auto Pilot: An alternative for guided progression, subject to current compatibility.
