Anyone who's studied economics should understand that the objective of any business is to make money. When you have a highly desirable commodity that is perishable (ie, don't know how long it will last), you should sell it at the highest price possible to make the most profit. Then when you no longer have buyers at that price, only then do you reduce the price.
Now, I'm not defending the prices, but they can set it at whatever they want if people are willing to buy.
