They can mean something still whether its true or not. Giving points out motivates players to leave their remarks of that server and help advertise. It's a double edged sword as people could give bad reviews and tarnish the advertisement as well. (More for you at the bottom if you read :3)
"and write a nice review about the server, make sure you add your charactername in the post! This is required to join the giveaway!"
A 'nice' review, in itself, can still go against the server's intentions. If they're respectable, they'll allow intense constructive criticism -- that is if it is a well endowed review. If they do not allow such thing, than you can easily claim heresy.
Anyway, If they want review's for their server, alright, let's start (Won't be a nice review because I am too tired to make it top notch):
Firstly, I will like to conclude that I haven't played Equinox FlyFF in quite a while. This meaning some of my information might be slightly adjusted. When I first entered the game (well, the last time I remember) I was introduced to a world of "this feels like a 5 second edit". The customization that was done to the continent of Flaris was absolutely and indubitably repulsive. I felt as if the mapper planted tree's terribly wrong or they just edited the environment to throw World of Warcraft models around and added some here and there, but it is mainly the use of texture's and certain tree's. In our day and age, visual aspects are becoming more popular over gameplay, story and other portions of games. Visually, I wasn't impressed as it would have taken a beginner at mapping less than a day to recreate something less bland and more appealing rather appalling.
With visual aspects in mind, let's continue over to the options and more of the maps. With more server's coming out with the released code for Antialiasing, I at least noticed that this server had the option to turn it on or off, which is better than having to leave it on. The downfall is, while it being on, it is being automatically set and rendered at the maximum Multisampling level that the PC can handle, which is quite a nuisance and low-end technology for game's today. Also, allowing the ability for users to personally set their level of Antialiasing is... well, a very quick edit. Now, a pro about this Antialiasing setting is it automatically updates in game, rather than having to reboot a client. After quick looking around, there were no signs for Anisotropic filtering nor any other increased graphical options. (Looking now, I notice that there is an option to toggle the type of glow's a player wants to use which I don't think any other server really did besides for when I added it in to Horizon while working there).
(Just checked on updates and stuff)
Now the old maps were quite annoying in ways with the style, and the amount of aggro's and the plethora of monsters. However, now the replication of Shaduwar attached to Tremore with additions seems more delightful, considering as it fits all together quite nicely.
Off the subject of graphics, let us explore gameplay. Leveling seemed quite balanced for a while, but the speed of leveling fell off quite fast and it was quite largely. Rather than a linear graph, it was more like a slightly better version of the exponential annoyance that FlyFF originally had. The low-rate addition made leveling more interesting and fun at least and more worth it. What was different was adding more jewelry sets for different levels, which I found to be quite neat as not many other servers did it. It introduced added need for different levels and reasons to keep certain old sets. The balance between leveling and money--for the most part, quite better than other servers. I noticed as your first character, you'll take a long time, and be rewarded great money if you loot. Enough to buy a +10 set if needed. Sure, reversions were a hell load of money, but at least it was balanced for early players, allowing gear below a certain level re-awakened without one. The only downside to upgrading was ultimates, in my opinion, as I have wasted more than a level 160 set to barely get any levels on an item. Which gives me an idea, why not do something like how awakening's were done with ultimate upgrading? Increase chances for the lower level the weapon is.
Anyway, even if that was quite a bit more balanced than other servers, after hours and hours of grind, I felt like I was nowhere, and no progress was being done due to the crappy exponential EXP curve. I reached x so quickly that reaching Y was to much of a pain to achieve, which is one huge downside that every single server I have played suffers from. The changes with set bonuses was intriguing as it did actually make some sets more useful. PvE was overall better, yet more tough for players with noob gears. I did feel huge imbalances with all the classes leveling curves and they're abilities and strengths in PvE and it felt like some classes were plain and utter useless.
Lastly, PvP. While I was there, PvP wasn't balanced. I don't remember much because I find FlyFF PvP a waste of time as it rarely involves debuff's, DoT's, skill shots, and time to actually react or kill. But my guildie always complained about imbalances, which seemed quite plausible.
Overall, even though this was more of a harsh bashing, it was one of the more fun experiences I had on a FlyFF server. Most server's, even with good maps, can be quite repulsive in gameplay. I could have actually talked about more things and made it slightly more positive, but I'd prefer to pass out.
Quick overview (Probably best ratings I have given at random and to a FlyFF server. As shit can easily be much better with this game but it isn't yet):
Graphic updates - 7/10 - Options meng. What if I want 2x msaa and 16x AF. And why cant i play 1000x600. New maps ok.
Story Updates - 0/10 (No real story quest wise?)
Gameplay - 6/10 - Gets boring quickly as no real changes. Too much tower.
General balance - 5/10 - At least its real butter. Exp curve is shit. Still rewarding. Better servers for bonus balance in pve and stuff. Penya is good.
Features - 4/10 - Honestly not too sure what is really new and added on that is free besides the model viewers and the updated looking party finder. Partfinder = A+. Model veiwers = too big for 800x600 rip taskbar. Oh yeah, updated protection and res protection. Good job. Now implement a way to binary difference the patches to make them smaller for the love of god.
PS. Sedrika, if you're still reading, your server would probably score less as I am not too sure if I fully agree with your pet filter, nor the possibilities that can come from the ripped off "sphere" grid (Mixed with FlyFF balance). Also, the passive skill system is absolutely a horrid way to do passive skills. Go play Aura Kingdom, and then other mmo's to learn how to passive. It kind of reminds me how Virtuous doesn't know how to glyph skills right and makes new DST params for glyphs
Edit: EvilSlayer, sorry if this comes off as quite 'douchey', It's just me with flyff / flyff servers.
