(Sticky) Mists of Pandaria Beta scam warning

"Hey guys! I just got an email from someone claiming to be Blizzard. Is it legit?"
"I just got whispered by someone in the game saying I got into the Beta! Is it for real?"

These questions will be popping up as soon as alpha is announced, then will increase in frequency after the beta is announced, so here is a very brief guide on what to do with those suspicious emails/whispers:

First, keep this in mind - no invites have been sent out for either phase of testing and likely won't be anytime soon. You will see an official post on the forums when they do. Until then - all emails are scams!

If you receive an email you think might be legit:

- Do not follow any links!

- Go directly to battle.net and log in

- If the email was legit, you'll see the Mists of Pandaria client under your Managed Games

People also ask about in-game whispers they get from 'Blizzard'. There's only one thing to keep in mind:

Blizzard will never contact you in-game regarding Beta invites, promotional items, or account security, whether by whisper or by mail!

Here's what you should do if you receive such a whisper/mail, or if you've determined the email in your inbox is fake:

- forward it/send the url to

- in-game messages can also be reported with the 'Report Spam' feature (right-click player name); you can also report in-game mail using a similar feature in your mailbox

- do not post any of it on the forums, especially the malicious urls

I realize people may want to help by warning others, but Blizz doesn't want to run the risk of a player going to such suspicious websites even out of curiosity. Posting the malicious urls can result in a forum ban

Even altering the url is not a good idea. Blizz likes to play it safe.
