just for all to know, the shop editor is only for the merchant modder, not meant to change npc names on the server or client, keep this in mind =)
to open the shop editor
start the rappelzmerchantmodder.exe and open menu Shop List -> Edit Shop List

i don't add items from the program.. just found that out today haha...
i do it the nice way but better then from the database

i just copy a code from the itemlist.txt and insert my own code and name

Well I did testing and once you add an item to the NPC, it sticks. Do the inserted items show up in your text report?
Please copy the lines from the items you inserted, and I'll look into it.
I didn't test all of the NPCs, but off the top of my head, the ones that do work like a charm are the HV item/weapon/armor/lak/scroll, Laksy Merchant.... and I don't remember what else I tried.

As a request from ironhammer500, I will be making a tweak to allow you to pick a database, in case you have more than one Arcadia. I will be including yet another XML file for those settings :P
I'm almost done, just doing the grunt work of checking said database exists and ensuring the app doesn't spontaneously combust.
It should be done later tonight or at most, tomorrow.
