Whats up with the DDOS protection hype?
So these months I see servers coming online promoting their "oh so special" anti DDOS protection. However still many servers with real DDOS protection go offline because of a hack or exploit.
When one server goes offline, people with no knowledge at all are going to spam about "You should have a better DDOS protection" or "Your server is not safe because you don't have DDOS protection"...
What the is going on with this hype?
A DDOS do not stop a hacker from hacking, it does not stop a hacker of using exploits that are based on for example the gameserver.exe and so a DDOS protection does not 100% protect your server.
Also when someone uses a decent botnet on a server, the anti DDOS still let those IPs through until one IP tries to DDOS to much so it blocks it. But still then the DDOS protection need to block all other shitloads of IPs connecting.
So can anyone explain to me what the is going on. So I can learn about it.

According to what you're trying to say, lemme explain the ddos **** idea for you:
Simply, any server can go down by 5 methods:
- SQL Injection *noob php core*
- Server Exploits *chernobyl lol, he helped a lot of dumb people to close servers by his original source codes*
- Weak server protection *using any ****** stresser that costs 5$ to get you down*
- Scandal *successfully convince people that it's a noob server, either by ******* up the community or search for smallest ***** to get advantage of it.*
- Betrayal *joining dumbass people in your team that can easily any time kick your **** by releasing any of your server's files/db/web *
And, if you successfully ran out of these 5 points, you can enjoy a stable server. However, no one can reach the 5 points yet except few!

Because some php cores are so strong to be sql injected, and some people can take advantage of non-ddos protected servers to ddos the **** out of em just to force em to quit.. as Ive told you, you've to keep the 5 points as soon as you'll open server otherwise, your server will fail.. Even skaliiaialaialaiador or ortai or dafuq its name, the database got released, many **** about em and so on...

Only a handful of people understand ddos means DISTRIBUTED denial of service... most people think ddos means one ******* using agent packets to crash a server...
ddos means a bot-net of 50-50000 computers all sending massive amount of information to your server so every connection times out from lag. u can buy bot-nets for 10-200@ month... or buy ddos booters for like 50-500$ a day...
people dont realize ddos protection does not stop exploits or sql injection... look at epicgame..

it does stop exploits on firewalls and stuff
if your only way to defend a server's exploit is via a firewall blocking a certain port, a botnet can bring the firewall down and leave the exploit open

TL: DR - Basically don't open a server if you can't afford the above (aside from betrayal + scandal, ofc)

It's because 100% of all silkroad servers are ran by underage kids from 2nd or 3rd world countries that have no competence in system administrating, webcoding or anything related, they just don't know better, but the users don't know better either, so if they read 'ddos protection' they'll assume that the owner knows what he's doing

ddos protected is only to keep server up during hard attack other stuff must be fixed in serv software. no other way deal with this.
also many serv use bad ddos protected (cause lag / player dc and many false positive).
there are few protected that is good enough.

So let's write a documentary, all exploits I saw from day one at all server files until now are known to be a simple "DoS" sending packets to overflow the files that creates a huge message count in the files which makes them crash, since iSRO did not code a cleaner and just kept the files running with all logs saved in the exe, there is no point in the files where the messages gets dumped and to continue this statement would be to easily get an program known as SimpleFW, but then again there is problems with DDoSing services such as Botnets and Stressers.
I've got a lot of customers on my protection and lately I was building systems with help of IPTABLES on unix systems to block this certain DoS packet flows that just keeps streaming through any known proxy provider. So with this said, the problem may not be in the files them self, it can be how you protect the incoming traffic.
Thanks for me

DDoS Protection
08/27/2012 - SRO Private Server - 14 Replies
Hello,
Lately I've been looking around at some servers and I have concluded that people are really having problems finding adequate protection for their servers. While most DDoS mitigation providers charge in the thousands for just simple protection, I have found a better way.
What's a DDoS attack?
A DDoS or DoS attack is basically an attack executed by a networked computer to try to exhaust the targets' server or computer resources. It is a fairly simple idea, and it is quite simple...
