[Guide] Playing Mabinogi on Linux

Do you use linux?Do you play mabi? Then this guide might not be for you!......Er...anyways
GUIDE:
*Configure wine to run mabinogi.exe, client.exe, npkcbk64.exe, npkcmsvc.exe, HSUpdate.exe, and autoup.exe under Windows XP and under a virtual desktop. ('winecfg' in Terminal, 'add new application,' select the program, and change it to 'Windows XP' near the bottom. I think 'run in a virtual desktop' in under the 'graphics' tab.)

*Install IEs4linux. Instructions at (you can ignore the other installation stuff).

*Install DirectX, preferably through winetricks. Instructions at - Similar instructions, including for a lot of other possibly useful stuff at

*Install gstreamer codecs:
woot go epic shortness. That and epic winess and epic simplicity
-Remove PulseAudio get ALSA. then get a life
-Download W32codecs. then get a life D:<
-MPlayer. If you haven't guessed that you're supposed to download it,go kill yourself
-Make sure it's the newest version of each you idiot

-Open MPlayer and click on the blank screen, then select preferences go to audio, select ALSA
-Install Mabinogi
-After it is installed, go to /Nexon/Mabinogi/movies/ right click on a movie and go to properties and under the "open with" tab select the program "Mplayer Movie Player."
This will keep you game from freezing, unless your and idiot then just kill yourself.Really
-Go to "Audio" Tab and check ALSA and at the bottom, "driver emulation".On configure Wine.If you can't tell by now you should be configuring this for Mabinogi not Internet Explorer(Just added for the idiots).
-install windows codecs pack 7(winetricks wmp10)
-Install devenum.dll to C:\Windows\system32 (you'll find it in browse C
-Install quartz.dll to C:\Windows\system32
-Set both as (native, builtin) under either default or client
-Run the game.If it dosent work you screwed up and your a idiot.Go kill yourself
-In the options ingame turn off "Glow Effect",it helps it run.
-???
-Profit
-Die
-Stop reading it and try it out.
-WARNING: IF STILL READING YOU HAVE NO LIFE
-Yey, thanks for epic warning label

WARNING: YOU MAY BE RANDOMLY ASSASSINATED FOR NOT THANKING

NOTE:you crash after talking to nao but you can just start up mabi again

I don't use Linux based OS's on either my PC or my PS3, so I have no clue how legit this is. If it does work the way it's supposed to, good job.

most likely that is what he wanted you to think

also tbstewa, debian is not a language so what are you even talking about?

to everyone else, virtual machines or compatibility layers have nothing to do with nexon and are virtually unpatchable. this has nothing to do with mabi hacking and its just basic linux gaming knowledge. about 75% of windows games can work on linux so you can use this tutorial as a guideline for many of the games that you want to play on linux
