[GUIDE] An Attempt To Help You Understand Lag and Help Get Rid of It.
This is just a beta version and probably will be work in progress until I get some work done.
Feedback is greatly welcomed and I have tried to make this guide grammatically correct so it's easier for you to understand ^^.
Please be patient reading the third part.
I. Understanding Lag
Spoiler:
So first things first, let me try to tell you the most common reason for lag.
You see, most people think lag has to do with how good or fast your internet is and it does.. but very little. Download and Upload speed as long as you have that minimum requirement (mostly any dsl/cable broadband high speed internet) won't make a difference.
The MOST common cause of lag is usually distance. And if you think about it, you can't really blame anyone for being located on the east coast which is the exact opposite side of Ntreev HQ's location. Yes, servers play a part too but ntreev's are capable enough. Maybe after Season 3 comes we won't even need something like this. Time will tell...
II. Testing for lag (can be inaccurate)
Spoiler:
So if your the above average user you know there are more factors than distance that could affect lag in a game. Now these tests are measuring your network quality which means I'm ASSUMING that your computer is already strong enough to handle grand chase. No, passing the minimum requirements isn't it, it means that there is no or barely any fps(frames per second) lag present when playing. Btw, playing full screen mode DOES indeed increase fps speed as there are less icons/pixels present on your screen.
Now to get back to where I was... Testing. But before let me explain real quick why it might be inaccurate. These tests will probably use some type of port which both of mine computers did fine but a firewall might be prompting you to block it. *If you receive a prompt by your firewall to block a connection while running it tell it to unblock or allow it.* That, and their servers might currently be under heavy use so make sure to check again at other times.
1. For the first test you will be using a website called[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] It will conduct some basic tests and will grade your connection and how well you will performed. Most users should get atleast get a B or higher in their local server. You can copy the forum link and post your results here. It will look like this :
III. Fighting Lag
Spoiler:
This is the main section which will be used for helping you fight lag.
- (***) Port Forward Grand Chase if your using a router!
Grand Chase uses the port 2848 and all you need to do is go into your router and most modern routers will have a port forwarding page. But if you need more help there is a great site that can help and has a list of many routers. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . Also from that site after you have done port forwarding you can check by downloading their tool called Port Checker which checks if you have correctly forwarded that port.
-(*) Add Grand Chase to your firewall list of exceptions!
If it hasnt already done so, do it now. It's pretty simple to do with the regular firewalls so I dont think I need to go over that. For all those Comodo Firewall users, you can add the actualy process itself to the list of exceptions which is far more accurate and helps much more. I couldn't believe it showed the process (main.exe) in the firewall process manager but its hidden in the normal windows task manager.
-(*) Lower your graphic settings!
Its a pretty simply trick and does indeed bost up your fps so why not? If you haven't already figured out, you can press f1 and f2 in-game to reduce and increase graphic settings. I find lowering graphic settings during the loading screen of a pvp match to be very helpful and then after loaded increasing it again.
-(**) Temporarily turn off Anti-virus apps!
Yea turn them off, you wont need them during gaming. Let your cpu focus on what's important.
-(**) Get rid of spyware!
These sneaky pests can severely lower performance so make sure to get rid of all of them. I'm pretty sure you can find various free spyware removal programs in alot of places but definitely pick one from [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . All their software is 100% clean.
-(*) Turn of unneeded apps!
Pretty basic but it WILL help with fps and overall performance, I can guarantee that...
-(**) Use Game Booster when running Grand Chase!
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . After installing this and hitting "switch to game mode", game booster will temporarily turn off processes you do not need while gaming. It will also give you a list of processes you can turn off but I recommend to skip on that part unless you know what they do. It will then minimize to the taskbar and you can enjoy your gaming. Out of sight and out of mind, just remember to restore to normal after you've finished gaming.
-(**) Maintain your pc with Advanced SystemCare! -HIGHLY RECOMMENDED-
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . This is a and will be the ONLY tool you should need for maintaining your computer. It can severely boost up your fps and overall computer speed. The main components you should regularly scan are the spyware section, registry fix, and junk files. The system optimization, and security defense will most likely be used only once. Note - for the people freaking about it harming your system, it doesn't. It has been tested by 35 million people and 90% of those people have proved that it does indeed work. EVEN IF somehow anything goes wrong it is always back upped before modifying the registry so a simple restore is all it takes. I don't recommend the turbo mode that much, I like game booster much better.
-(**) Defragment your hard drive!
Even if modern hard drives aren't affected much it does indeed boost performance. It is highly recommended you use an alternative to the ol standard windows deframenter program. Auslogics is my recommended one since its so fast and effective. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
-(*) Update your computer!
Pretty obvious. Updating your computer helps ensures your up to date with all the current improvements.
-(*) Uninstall unneeded programs!
Again, obvious but you really SHOULD get rid of applications you dont need, whats the point of having it there when your not using it? It's just wasting your time. Also and advanced tip: Get Revo Uninstaller - [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . Its much better than the regular one and advanced users can make use of its benefits to uninstall applications more efficiently.
-(**) [EXTRA] Use Speccy to more accurately describe your computer specifications.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Speccy is a free tool that gives you all the information on every piece of gear on your pc. It is available as a standalone file (no need to install) and an installable version (creates schortcut). This will help you when you are in a bug fix and you need to give your computer specifications.
