Octagon Interactive has recently announced their upcoming title "Beasts of Prey". Beasts of Prey is a Sandbox MMO featuring a procedually generated world based which increases based on server population. The game follows a similar approach like RUST where you'll craft houses, build structures, gather resources and hunt down enemies. The developers announced that unlike other MMOs the game will not have a monthly subscription and there is also no "pay to win" scheme attached as well.
But the game feels a bit more like PlanetSide, however instead of being on one of 3 sides clans are solely on their own side and have to build outposts & bases which they have to defend. Gathering differs much from what we have seen, for example the wood you gather actually drops in the game-world and others can take it as well. While this allows players to steal from each other it also allows them to team up and really work together.
Octagon Interactive gave us also some inside information on PvP. PvP is harsh just like in Rust, DayZ or Infestation - when you die you loose your stuff, but it's possible to safely store your belongings in lockers which serve as a global inventory that can only be accessed by yourself and clan mates. Enemies can destroy these but that only stops you from accessing your global inventory. After rebuilding and placing it again in the game-world you'll regain access to your global inventory.
Almost everything in the game can be destroyed. When you go to war with a different clan you can decide you want to fully obliterate their outposts/bases or if you actually just want to take-over them over by destroying their barracks/key infrastructure. Clans can claim land by placing their clan banner/flag in the game, once deployed noone else can build in their area. But since everything can be destroyed they have to protect that structure and cover it with walls, fences & guardtowers.
Octagon Interactive has supplied us with their game trailers. The game is scheduled for it's alpha release in Q2-2014 / Summer 2014. The developers will soon announce a limited pre-ordering phase. The game has been submitted to Greenlight
, so you can help them to get Greenlight Approval.
