Will fingerprints on tablets and smartphones soon be old news? A team of scientists from University of Texas, in Cooperation with Samsung Emerging Technology Lab, is currently developing a method that will allow users to control tablets only by the power of their mind. What sounds pretty alluring will require us to wait some time, as the project has just started.
Why mind-controlled? First off all, this is again about pleasuring the lazy piece inside every human. However, there are more humble goals such as giving disabled people a way to more easily take part in the internet.
One might ask how such ideas are supposed to work. At the moment, it is being experimented with a "hat full of EEG-electrodes". These measure the electric impulses in your head and register patterns of brainwaves. It was proven that it is possible to start an App this way, if the icon blinks in a specific frequency.
This might sound very spectacular and this might help a lot of people. However one has to ask whether it's worth the effort. Also, scientist have yet to struggle with another problem: A comfortable but also good looking way to arrange the electrodes for daily use.
