Last night Ubisoft revealed Shootmania, their latest addition to the eSport genre. Shootmania is a first person shooter designed for eSports, so it's based on the premise that you're going to be playing competitively, and features fun, unique game modes.
We had an on-stage demo of the game from some of the top players in the world in a battle of the genders. These two teams of three featured five Counter Strike champions and one World of Warcraft champion. The show's hosts made a wager on the battle in a weak attempt at humour, but I don't think the crowd cared too much.
The demo involved the two teams facing off in Shootmania's "Elite Mode", where one attacking player from one team faces three defending players from the other. The attacker has a railgun, and the defenders have rocket launchers. Two hits from the rocket launcher means player-out for the attacker, where the railgun delivers a one-hit-kill.
