Planetside 2, sequel to 2003’s massively multiplayer online shooter, was now officially announced by Sony Online Entertainment.
At the beginning of the game, you join up with either the Terran Repulic, the New Conglomerate or the Vanu Sovereignty that send you right into big firefights. New bases and areas are to be captured, but also one’s own must be defended. All this can be done either on foot, or using various types of land vehicles or aircraft.
As a reward for successful combat missions, you can unlock different warrior classes and change these between missions at will.
PS2 is set in a persistent world. For those of you who can’t picture that: an area remains in one’s possession until the opposition recaptures it, so it really is a persistent cycle.
The trailer shows additional details:
What has not been established yet, is a pricing plan. Will there be monthly fees or will it be financed using a free-to-play platform? Just as uncertain is the release date.
What is certain, however, is that there is going to be a beta phase prior to the official release and that the game is going to be full of action.
