Requirements
First off, your going to need an editing software (Paint.NET, GIMP, or any Photoshop version with a .dds plugin), and prior knowledge on how to edit .dds files. See downloads for specific files and programs.
Downloads (Updated 8/3/11)
Contains:
Market - (Whole map)
BirdIsland - (Whole map)
Ape Mountain - (Whole map)
Mine - (Whole map)
Phoenix Castle - (Whole map)
Desert City - (Whole map)
DisCity - (Whole map)
MapScene - (1000+ files!!)
Some files for the map(s) might be missing, so if you edit the map and find some .dds files are missing, use the WdfExtractor to get the rest of them
Install to Conquer Directory\data\map
There was an error while trying to scan it on viruschief.com and virustotal.com and virus.org because the large size. If you don't trust me, don't download.

Editing
Now, how to edit them. Most of the map files you will want to edit are located in - Conquer Directory\data\map\puzzle So now lets go there. (Updated Christmas Eve 2010)
It should look something like that. Open whichever one you want to edit, here is what is in each folder:
canyon - ApeCity
dcity - DisCity
desert - Desert City
family - House
icecrypt - Frozen Grotto
island - BirdIsland
newplain - TwinCity + Terrain (Everything you see on the MiniMap)
ship - Abandoned ship
street - Market
woods - Phoenix Castle
Ok, now just some info because you might be frightened when you see how the maps are setup. Editing maps isn't something you do in minutes, it usually takes a few hours to do it good.
It is split into individual squares with the size of 256x256 pixels
I'll show you how they set it up...
Now lets say i want to insert an object to it, then it would look something like this:
Seems easy right? well, its not exactly like that. For adding those 2 objects i have to edit 5 .dds; does is still sound too easy? Not only that but if you want it to look like it is in the picture above, then you need to align the object exactly the same in the .dds next to it. If you dont then it will look screwed up...(see below)
And when editing 600+ files (usually), one mistake can make a big difference. For example, you edit all of them, but then you find a few spots ingame that arent edited, now you have to look through all the files to find the images you screwed up on.

Objects
Now I'll will explain how to add Objects to the Map.
In Photoshop/GIMP/Paint.NET have the .dds you want to edit open, and then open Conquer Directory\data\map\Scene and look in the folders to see which one you like or create your own.
Once you find the one you want, open it, Highlight the whole image (In your editing software) and drag it onto your .dds your editing (map)
It should appear as a new layer so use the MagicWand tool (might be named differently in GIMP or Paint) and select the background, now delete it.
It should look something like this:
Now unfortunatly people can still walk on the object because you need to edit the .DMap files for the boundaries.

How To Recover Original Maps
This is very simple to do, go to Conquer Directory\data\map\puzzle and delete the Map folder that you edited. Conquer will then search for the original .ani file that i extracted for you and will return the non-edited map.
