Max 6 people online

Ok Im using the 5165 source. Im running the source off a piece of **** but heres the thing. Only 6 people can be online. Otherwise it just sits at Initializing..
My comp says only 4% of the cpu is being used and only .07% network load. I set my router to allow 200 DHCP connections. Anyone have any thoughts?

First thing - you're Internet connection. Upload may be too low (network utilization can't measure that).

Second MAY be the computer, but I have run HybridCO w/ 117 people (possibly more) at one point, on a PC from 2000 w/ a 600MHz PIII processor, 256MB of RAM & 6/1 Internet connection, with no lag.

BUT (if your upload was low/connection stunk):

People should still be able to connect, it'd just lag everyone for every new person/client connecting...which leads me to believe:

LOTF v5165 is ****, and whatever has been added into that source made it even more **** and it can no longer support more players. =d

Best way I can put it. :/

I agree the Socket network built in the 5165 source is not any better than it was before. Other than that LetterX took the words right out of my mouth on everything else

Well

Well I know a bunch of people with 5165 sources who could easily handle at least 25 people..so..and now the max is 9 online before it maxes lol.

Oh snap i did a speed test with the server open with people connected.

Says my upload is only .44Mb/s Is that horrible for the server being up w/ 10 people connected\?

Dude, I have run v5165 with 92 people online with my home PC. But then again, I have extremely good net and specs.

Specs:
Windows Vista 64bit Ultimate
Intel Q9560 @ 4.1 Ghz water-cooled
12 MBs/ram
1000/1000 Ethernet port

Net with FULL workload(the 92 people):



It goes to about 38 mb download/12 mb upload with nothing open.

That being said, the 5165 CAN HANDLE a big amount of people, given the right host.

Ok. Well maybe running it on my brand new quad core would be a good idea but I don't want to leave the thing on all night.. and it's my computer I use for school stuff..

The computer I listed isn't my work computer, so I suggest getting something around these lines to actually host a "quality" server off of, but that is if you are wishing to spend money now, and save money in the long run(by not paying monthly for a vps):

Intel Core 2 Duo OR Intel Dual Core 1.5 GHz or better
ATLEAST 512 MB of ram
ATLEAST a steady 3 mb down/.5 mb up connection

And that's really about it.

Yes, he'll blow by and support a lot of players with only 512KB/s of upload x.X

I said steady 512 kb/upload, meaning it doesn't alter when people log in. But 512 kb/s upload can handle ~30 people without much lag, trust me.

technically It would support 128ppl on ping < 400 depending on location

but then again all those noobies or not ..... A question: is that server the only thing using that connectivity?? is there other stuff?? Mails? IMs? SKYPE ?? !! occasional downloads(of updates)?

Well what I did was stick my two computers side by side and they share some cables from my modem. Usually when I have the server up the other comp is off. Also i was researching some more internet plans..the "Fastest plan that blows all the others away with our fiberoptics" from RoadRunner. It's ~15 mb/s download and only 1mb/s upload! Whats up with that? Im like literally 50 miles from the place and they can only give me a 1mb/s upload.


Edit: Well my upload with 10 people online is .44mb/s...and with the server completely off its... .45mb/s

I have 2 connections running to my house:

My 38 mb download/28 mb upload T1 line, and a 20 mb download 3 mb upload cable line.

I live ~4 blocks away from the Comcast Cable substation for the cable line, and look what I get for a connection, but I live ~150 miles from the AT&T substation, and look what I get for the T1 line.

It all depends on what kind of connection you have.
